The Music Extra-Curricular program runs before and after school and is a mixture of auditioned and non-auditioned programs. Auditioned students are encouraged to become part of one or more of the programs available as opportunities to extend skills in areas of expertise.

JAZZ BAND | TUESDAY 7:30am - 8:55am | $100 per year

Jazz Band is an exciting opportunity for intermediate to advanced students to perform in a Big Band playing jazz standards and big band charts. Students who play brass, wind, guitar/bass and percussion instruments are encouraged to audition. The Jazz Band is run by Greg Hebblewhite. Greg has been playing trumpet for over 30 years. He has worked as both a professional and amateur performer throughout his career performing in many diverse ensembles. Greg has been involved in over 100 musical productions, most recently he was in the orchestra for Backwards Broadway for Willoughby Theatre Company. Greg also leads and coordinates Bird Yard Big Band, which is an 18 piece jazz ensemble that performs on a regular basis throughout Sydney.
ORCHESTRA | MONDAY & THURSDAY 7:30am - 8:55am | $100 per year

This ensemble caters for students of any level. The Orchestra is run by Greg Hebblewhite and Amanda Rudolf. Greg has been playing trumpet for over 30 years. He has worked as both a professional and amateur performer throughout his career performing in many diverse ensembles. Greg has been involved in over 100 musical productions, most recently he was in the orchestra for Backwards Broadway for Willoughby Theatre Company. Greg also leads and coordinates Bird Yard Big Band, which is an 18 piece jazz ensemble that performs on a regular basis throughout Sydney. Amanda Rudolf has studied piano, flute, voice and has more recently taken up the saxophone! She has been part of a rock band and a cappella group performing across Sydney, is currently playing in Bird Yard Big Band. The Orchestra rehearses 2 mornings per week on Monday and on Thursday mornings. Students will play as part of a large orchestral ensemble performing movies themes, jazz and classical pieces.
TRAINING BAND | THURSDAY 7:30am - 8:55am | $100 per year

Beginners are encouraged to join (woodwind, brass and orchestral string instruments can be hired from the school). Students who are just starting out on their instrument will be part of the Training Band which will meet on Thursday mornings for lessons. (Training Band students are also welcome to be part of the Orchestra on a Monday morning should they choose)
AMPLIFIED MUSIC ENSEMBLE (ROCK BAND) | TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS & FRIDAYS 7:30am - 8:55am | $100 per year

There are 4 Amplified Music Ensembles (Rock Bands) at Nepean CAPA High School. The Ensembles are run by Jamie Galea and Kyle Bright. Jamie Galea is a professional musician currently working in the Music Industry. He has extended experience producing, recording and arranging music as well as experience teaching contemporary composition and production techniques. Kyle Bright has been teaching at Nepean Creative & Performing Arts High School since 2012, delivering the Music & VET Entertainment courses as well as facilitating the Amplified Music Ensembles in our extra-curricular program. Successful student applicants will demonstrate competent understanding of their instrument, ensemble awareness, pitch and rhythmic consistency and accuracy where applicable. A willingness to attend all rehearsals on time, participate in a variety of styles and performance opportunities is essential.
VOCAL COMPANY | FRIDAY 3:00pm - 4:30pm | $100 per year

Vocal Company is for students who are capable of holding a part and comfortable following a musical line. The Vocal Company is run by Amanda Rudolf. Amanda Rudolf has studied piano, flute, voice and has more recently taken up the saxophone! She has sung in a Rock Band, is currently playing in Bird Yard Big Band and singing in a Sydney based a cappella ensemble performing across Sydney. She has also conducted massed choirs on the Opera House stage. Amanda has studied music at both Sydney University and Western Sydney University and has been teaching at Nepean since 2005.
EXTENSION VOCAL COMPANY | FRIDAY 4:30pm - 5:30pm
Extension Vocal Company is an a cappella group and is by invite only from students from the Vocal Company. Students will attend the Vocal Company rehearsal first and will then stay for the Extension Vocal Company. Students must be able to hold a part on their own and be confident performing. This group will sing a cappella in 4 - 8 parts learning a range of styles of music.
Please ensure that your Expression of Interest Form is completed and returned (digitally) signed by a parent/carer by Term 1 Week 3 Friday 14 February
