Thermosoftening polymers are polymers that can be manipulated into different shapes when they are hot, and the shape sets when it cools. If we were to reheat the polymer again, we could re-shape it once again.
Create a table and for each polymer from the video list some comon uses.
Nomex® is a synthetic fiber which is flame and heat resistant. It is one of the first fibers resistent to flames, with a higher proved performance. Chemically, it is a meta-aramid. DuPont, the developer of the Nomex® fiber, specifically engineered the heat and flame resistance characteristics of the molecular structure of Nomex® fabric.
Kevlar ® is a heat-resistant para-aramid synthetic fiber with a molecular structure of many inter-chain bonds that make Kevlar ® incredibly strong. Best known for its use in ballistic body armor, Kevlar ® also has many other applications because of its high tensile strength-to-weight ratio.
The following are the upholstery applications used in automobiles:-
Auto floor mats, Automotive carpeting, Automotive seating, Seat covers, Seat belts, Air bags, Steering wheel covers, Automotive headliners, Auto trim/supported PVC, Auto trim/ leather, Auto trim/ other automotive upholstery and Car covers.
In industrial applications, owing to its low friction, PTFE is used for plain bearings, gears, slide plates, seals, gaskets, bushings, and more applications with sliding action of parts, where it outperforms acetal and nylon.
Teflon is best known for its use in coating non-stick frying pans and other cookware.
Also found in ski bindings as a non-mechanical AFD (anti-friction device)
Task: For each manufacturing process draw a basic sketch and describe the process.
