Detailed mind map of your MDP brain storming, it is to be scanned and be the first page of your folio with a brief evaluation. Use Canva
-design brief: define the problem
-exploration of oppotunities
-justification of the need
-exploration of the need. What specifically is the need? Motivation purpose. Evidence Interview, Observation, Detailed mindmap, Research-preliminary and secondary, Photographs, Relevant survey with appropriate questions, Short video (presenting the need)
-design limits and parameters
justification of why this project has been selected.
Project proposal - a statement of what you are proposing for your MDP
Describes relevant areas of investigation which relate clearly to the need, and provides direction for further action
Describe: Provide characteristics and features
How can the need be presented/ communicated?
Initial mindmap, list or matrix of relevant areas that need to be investigated. Determine most to least important.
Describe each area (characteristics and features) AND LINK TO THE BRIEF/PROPOSAL
Provide how you intend to investigate this area (what type of research qualitative or quantitative) , why it is necessary and what would be a consequence if this area was not investigated successfully.
Paragraphs
Table
Establishes and analyses appropriate criteria to evaluate the success of the PSE
Formulates and evaluates well-documented action, time and finance plans with clear evidence of their application to the PSE
Formulate create or prepare methodically. Evaluate Make a judgment based on criteria; determine the value of.
How can the need be presented/ communicated?
Action plan: a flow chart that is specific to your project and has options for success and failure at a number of stages. Cause and effect. (use canva)
Time plan: similar to what we have done in the past, with more detail and through evaluation throughout the time documentation
Finance plan: use excel for this and provide receipts (not in full size, just images)
For each you need to show evidence of them being applied.
Evidence of creativity – ideas generation, degree of difference and exploration of existing ideas
Demonstrates the substantial application of creativity in the development of the MDP.
Demonstrate Show by example Substantial: of considerable importance, size, or worth
Consideration of design factors relevant to the Major Design Project
Analyses a range of design factors relevant to the PSE and applies them.
Analyse: Identify components and the relationship between them; draw out and relate implication.
How can the need be presented/ communicated?
First you will need to establish the FAD
Analyse each factor, identify components and then discuss the relationship of that factor with other factors. (similar to criteria to evaluate success)
Specifically state how you will apply each FAD and provide evidence of this application.
Direct the marker to pages of the folio that provide evidence of this application. For example when analysing budgets make reference to the page number the finance plan is on.
Paragraphs for each FAD
Table for each factor (identify components, relationships, implications of the
factor and when it was applied)
(weighted more in marking!!!)
Appropriate Research and Experimentation of; materials, tools, techniques and testing of design solutions.
Undertakes, evaluates and applies a range of appropriate research, experimentation and design solution testing in the development of the MDP
The five stages of design thinking are:
Empathize with users and understand their jobs to be done
Define a problem statement based on what you’ve learned about your users
Ideate creative solutions to the problem
Prototype models of concepts, products, and features
Test your ideas and prototypes with real user groups to understand what works and what doesn’t
Identification and justification of ideas and resources used
Justifies the selection and use of ideas and resources used for the PSE
Justify: Support an argument or conclusion
How can the need be presented/ communicated?
This is your final argument of why your design is what it is and why is directly responds to the need
This justified include the materials, shape, design, function, ect selected and why others weather NOT selected.
This can be communicated with a video or images.
Use of communication and presentation techniques
Succinctly demonstrates a range of appropriate quality communication and presentation techniques.
Succinct: in order of the marking criteria- clear headings references to parts of the folio
Range: excel, CAD, sketches, graphics, 3D printing, Screenshots, videos, graphs, physical examples, labels, etc
Appropriate: is it necessary? Is text font, size and colour appropriate and clear, not A3 (except sketches and excel) , bound and not in plastic sleeves, images clearly communicate content. 80 page limit.
Presentation: display board, labels.
Applies a range of high-quality practical skills in the development of the PSE
Range!!! This is so important.
Evidence: In some projects the skill in not evident, therefore the need to use images or video to show the skills (coding, internal joints etc)
You are marked on your skills in the development, not just the final product to try different skills. (welding, joinery etc)
Critically evaluates aspects of the PSE throughout its entire development.
Critically (analyse/evaluate)
Add a degree or level of accuracy depth, knowledge and understanding, logic, questioning, reflection and quality to (analyse/evaluate)
This can be done by having a critical evaluation at the end of each section (proposal, development, realisation, final product)
