Project Innovate involves the study of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in an integrated approach. This Year 8 course focuses on developing the skills of collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity through the completion of Project Based Learning. Project Based Learning is a student-centred approach to learning. It involves a dynamic classroom approach in which students actively explore real-world problems and challenges acquiring a deeper knowledge and understanding.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
There are four topics that are explored;
Crazy Coasters: In this topic students are familiarised with the design process, developing and following a timeline, as well as, concepts of energy and motion. By working as a team to construct a rollercoaster that meets the specific design brief students will develop inquiry and self-reflection skills.
Lego Robotics: In this unit, students are introduced to the world of robotics as they learn the basics of building and programming autonomous robots using sensors. Working with their team to build an effective competition robot, through testing and refine programs, using the design process to develop a solution in order to complete missions, all the while developing skills related to collaboration and teamwork, and life skills for future careers.
Creating Our Future: In this topic student delve deeper into Project Based Learning to design a technology to make our bodies move. Students are provided an opportunity to explore their creative side by developing a prototype using Minecraft, Lego or graphic design software, which can be printed using our 3D printer.
Arcade Adventures: In this unit students research STEM and its application to entertainment. Using their research, students design a game to meet the design brief and develop their project management skills.
