Changes in the Earth and sky

Resources change over time

Class discussion

The Earth's resources change over time.

Some things change quickly, like when it starts raining.

Some things change slowly, like the seasons.

Some things take thousands of years to change, like a river carving out a valley.

Come up with examples of things that change quickly, slowly and over thousands of years.

Changes in the sky

  1. Get some chalk and find a sunny section of the playground that can be drawn on.

  2. In pairs, students draw a chalk outline of each other at the beginning, middle and end of the school day.

  3. Discuss why the chalk outline changed. What moved? How fast did it move?
