The world is at your fingertips! Accessing information online can be instant, interesting and innovative.
Jose Nestor et al. (2022) emphasise the need for all students to understand their digital citizenship. Everything you do online forms your digital identity. It is up to you to take control and take action to ensure everyone is respected online. Ribble (2015) explains the importance of digital citizenship in ensuring digital technologies can continue to benefit us all.
You can be a responsible citizen by:
Being respectful to yourself and to others.
Staying safe by not engaging with strangers or sharing your personal information.
Aligning your digital citizenship to the behaviours you maintain in the physical world, because everything you do online can always be found, by anyone.
The video below (Leeson, 2024a) explores how you can engage responsibly with the online environment. Everything that you post online can be accessed by people all around the world. Think of ways that you can keep yourself and your friends safe, because even if you delete the things you share, it may have already been copied or shared by someone else.
Remember... "Think before you post". (Leeson, 2024a)
