Each class will receive a craft pack (prepared at the Parent and Carers Tea and Chats). K-2 will have large petals and Year 3-6 will have smaller petals.
Take out the petals and arrange them on a table, with the yellow circle in the centre.
Optional: Teachers can draw a faint line in pencil on each petal to show where each student can write their greeting.
Write a greeting in your language. Here are some examples for help: Language flower (PDF) and List of greetings in different languages (Google Doc).
Here is a video on how to write 'hello' in 10 languages (English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Russian, French, Spanish, Vietnamese and Hindi)
Be careful not to write too close to the edges as they may get covered up with other petals.
The example says 'Konnichiwa' and is Japanese.
You can colour in the petal if you wish - e.g. using colours of your flag, national flowers or other symbols or pictures representing your home language or culture.
In the example, Ms Yasugi drew a Japanese flag and some sakura flowers.
Optional: Write the language on the back of the petal too.
Give the petal to the teacher to make a class flower.
If there are any helpers in the room, they can assist with sticking the flower together.
Teachers please bring the flower to the staff room for Ms Yasugi to display in the office foyer. Thank you.
Teachers and staff are invited to write a greeting on a butterfly 🦋.
Parents and carers are invited to write a greeting on a leaf 🍃.
Thank you to everyone who helped to prepare our language flower craft packs! We had parents and carers cut out lots of petals, leaves and butterflies at our 'tea and chats'. Our EAL/D students and EAL/D teachers also helped, as well as our Principal Ms Marchiello and Ms Gana (our Mongolian Support Teacher).
