Dear Parents and Carers,
This term we will be celebrating 'Language Day' on Wednesday, 11th September (Week 8, Term 3). This event will focus on the diverse languages spoken by our students and their families, highlighting the cultural richness within our school. Over 90% of our students are from a language background other than English.
Please read the information below and let us know if you can help us.
Parents and carers please let us know if you can visit our classrooms on the day.
Note: We will not be dressing up for this event because of SISA (Sports).
Before the Day: We’d love to see photos or short videos of you celebrating your language or culture! Here are some ideas:
Photos: Show us cooking a special meal, celebrating a holiday, wearing traditional clothes, or sharing some writing in your language.
Videos/Audio (less than 1 minute): Record yourself saying e.g. hello or 'Happy Language Day!', singing a song, or playing an instrument in your language.
We will put your photos and videos into a slideshow.
At 1.30-2pm we invite families to have a picnic at our school!
Where: Grass area & Wavy Seats
Bring some food, a blanket or towel to sit on, and enjoy having a picnic at our school!
Parents or carers are invited to come to classes in the last hour of the afternoon to read a bilingual book, teach a few words or greetings, or share a simple song in another language with the students.
This will need to be arranged with the classes prior to the day. Please complete the form if you would like to be a part of this.
On Language Day, students will create a 'language map' to show what language(s) they speak, with whom, and where.
We can use the data collected from this activity for various maths activities in class, such as counting, making graphs and statistics.
On Language Day, each class will create a collaborative flower, with the class name in the centre and 'hello' or 'welcome' in different languages written on each petal.
These flowers will be displayed in the office foyer as a welcoming display.
Please come to our "Tea and Chat" for Parents and Carers on Wednesday 4th September (Week 7) at 9am - and to help us cut out paper flowers!
If you want to help but cannot come to our Tea and Chat, please still fill out the form below.
