CROMER COURIER
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we move through the term, I would like to acknowledge the continued efforts of our students in demonstrating a positive commitment to their learning. A key focus for our school remains ensuring that students come to school each day ready for learning. This includes bringing all necessary equipment such as books and stationery, being organised for the day ahead, and wearing our school uniform with pride.
These habits may seem simple, but they play an important role in supporting students to develop independence, responsibility and confidence. When students are well prepared and take pride in their presentation, they are better positioned to engage fully in their learning and make the most of every opportunity at school.
I would also like to warmly congratulate all students on the successful completion of their half-yearly examinations. They approached this important period with maturity and perseverance, and we are proud of their efforts. Parents are advised that student reports will be sent home this Friday.
Looking ahead, we are preparing for our upcoming Learning Conversations, which will take place in Weeks 3 and 4 of next term. These conversations are centred on each student's individual learning goals and provide a valuable opportunity for students, parents and teachers to work together in support of progress and achievement. Parent involvement in these discussions has a powerful and positive impact on a child's intellectual engagement and academic success, and we strongly encourage all families to participate.
We are also very excited about the progress of our new multipurpose sports hall project, which will now include the rejuvenation of the existing hall. This is a wonderful development for our school and broader community, and we look forward to the many opportunities these improved facilities will provide for our students.
To keep our community informed, a Community Information Event will be held at the school on Tuesday 21 July from 3:00pm to 6:30pm. We encourage families and community members to attend and learn more about this exciting project.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our school. By working together, we continue to create the conditions for every student to thrive.
Justin Hong
Principal
Our Principal recently hosted a morning tea for parents and students in Stages 4 & 5 with outstanding school attendance.
It is always wonderful to see both familiar faces of students who are consistently invited to morning teas and also students who have joined the group with their outstanding school attendance and commitment to learning.

Hello, I am Ms Davis, the new Student Support Officer and an ex-student of Cromer Campus. I use my social work background to work with students, parents, school staff, and the wider community to support student wellbeing.
My goal as an SSO is to promote safety, resilience and positive coping skills amongst the school as well as working alongside students, either individually or in small groups.
I run a variety of programs such as the reset room for overwhelmed students, the brunch program and our social arts and craft group. Students can be referred to me by the wellbeing team, year advisers, head teachers and deputy principals.
I can provide support in a range of areas such as bullying, friendship breakdowns, general school/study stress, stresses happening at home or mental health concerns. For more complex issues, I can connect students in with external services or find the right person for them within the school.
I am very excited to be back at Cromer and to be here supporting the students!
Our HPGE athletes were treated to a visit from Holly Young, two-time Olympian and Olympic bronze medalist in Water Polo.
She shared her journey, the challenges she overcame, and described the dedication and resilience required to compete at the highest level.
Her exceptional connection with our HPGE athletes provided valuable insight into goal-setting, perseverance and striving for excellence.
As part of their Life Ready program, Year 11 students recently participated in a practical workshop delivered by GALMATIC, focusing on essential car maintenance skills.
Students learned how to change a tyre, check oil levels, and carry out basic vehicle safety checks. This is valuable knowledge that will help prepare them for independent driving and car ownership in the future.
The workshop was highly engaging, with students demonstrating maturity throughout the session, asking thoughtful questions, and enthusiastically participating in the hands-on activities. It was a valuable learning experience, and students left with increased confidence and practical skills they can apply in everyday life.
This term, Cromer students and staff have come together to take part in the Push-Up Challenge, raising funds and awareness for mental health initiatives across Australia.
Whether participating individually or as part of a team, members of the Cromer community have committed to completing 3,307 push-ups or alternate exercises throughout the challenge. This number represents the lives lost to suicide in Australia in 2024 and serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of mental health awareness, support and open conversation.
As a school, we raised $7,259 and completed over 142,037 push-ups, demonstrating the enthusiasm, dedication and community spirit of everyone involved.
The Push-Up Challenge has been a fantastic way for students and staff to work together for an important cause while promoting both physical wellbeing and mental health awareness. It has been inspiring to see so many members of the school community get behind the initiative, support one another and contribute to such a meaningful campaign.
Our school community came together for the ANZAC Day Assembly to remember and honour those who have served Australia and New Zealand.
Year 9 student Abbey M sang the Australian National Anthem, while Year 12 student Griffin N-W performed The Last Post. Year 7 student Louis P then performed the Reveille.
All three students performed with confidence and respect, helping to make the assembly a meaningful occasion for students and staff.
Throughout Term 2, Year 9 students showcased outstanding leadership and communication as they mentored younger students at Beacon Hill and Curl Curl North Public Schools, working together to create solutions for protecting our endangered fairy penguin colonies.
From hands-on sustainability efforts at Little Manly Beach to learning about conservation practices at Taronga Zoo, they made a real difference.
The project culminated in a heartfelt reflection speech by Georgie W and Claudia B, and special awards to Lincoln M and Ross K for their exceptional mentoring.
We are so pleased to announce that some very talented Cromer students have been selected to perform in the Schools Spectacular later this year.
Congratulations to:
Remi P (yr 9) - featured vocalist. Selected from 500 audition videos... what an achievement!
Kate B (yr 11) - featured drama
Junior Dance Team - Combined Dance
Choir members - Combined Choir
Thanks Miss North, Mr Cosentino and Miss Wigston for their efforts in preparing the students.
In support of the spirit and excitement surrounding the World Cup, we held a green and gold themed Mufti Day on Friday 26 June. The whole school we came together to watch the Australia vs Paraguay soccer match.
There were loud cheers bellowing from the many viewing areas around the school as the Aussies came close to scoring a number of times, but held off Paraguay from scoring. The nil all score putting the Socceroos through to the next round.
Go the Socceroooos!!!!
To recognise their outstanding transition to high school, we presented 26 Silver Awards to students who have consistently demonstrated our positive behaviour expectations.
A special congratulations to our Gold Award recipients, Quinn O'F, Alfie C and Oliver M, who have each achieved an incredible 100+ positive behaviour acknowledgements!
We also presented 105 Bronze Awards (30 positives), recognising the positive contributions and efforts of so many more Year 7 students.
Congratulations to all of our Year 7 students on an outstanding first 100 days. We are incredibly proud of the way you have embraced high school life and look forward to celebrating many more achievements throughout the year.
Staff claimed bragging rights in this year's Year 12 vs Staff Dodgeball showdown!
After a fiercely contested battle, the teachers emerged victorious - with a little help from our honorary teacher for the day, Beau M., whose recruitment proved to be the game changer.
Thanks to everyone for bringing the end of term energy, laughs and competitive spirit!
Our student leaders have proudly attended a range of significant community and civic events this term.
Our leaders visited NSW Parliament House on two occasions, where we had the opportunity to meet with our local Member of Parliament, Michael Regan. During these visits, we observed Parliament in action, learned about the legislative process, and connected with student leaders from other schools across New South Wales. We also visited Government House, where we heard from the Governor and gained valuable insights into civic leadership and public service.
Student leaders also participated in several important commemorative events. At the Manly Corso Commemorative Service, we laid a tribute in remembrance of those who have served our country. We also attended the Defence of Sydney Monument at North Head, where we paid our respects by laying a tribute and reflecting on the sacrifices made during times of conflict.
Additionally, our student leaders took part in Northern Beaches Council’s Have Your Say Day, contributing ideas and perspectives on issues affecting young people in our local community.
These experiences have been a fantastic chance to develop our leadership skills, connect with the wider community, and learn more about how we can make a positive difference. We’ve enjoyed representing Cromer Campus throughout the term and are grateful for the opportunities we’ve had along the way.
Yr 11 & 12 Hospitality
Last week our year 11 and 12 hospitality students catered for the cast and crew of the musical being performed at NBSC Manly Campus.
Across four days, our students prepped the food at Cromer Campus and then travelled to Manly to feed 140 people a night.
This was a fantastic cross campus collaboration, where our students learnt all about off site catering and the fun of functions!
We received rave reviews and have been asked to return next year as the we were told it was the best meals that have ever been served.
Well done hospo!!!!
Our Year 12 Multimedia students recently embarked on an exciting excursion to the Supanova Comic Con & Gaming convention in Sydney, immersing themselves in the cutting edge of digital media.
Throughout the action-packed event, students attended a series of inspiring industry professional talks, gaining invaluable insights from a diverse lineup of successful actors, directors, and computer game designers.
The absolute highlight of the day came from the gaming arena, where our school took part in the highly competitive all-schools esports tournament.
Showing incredible teamwork, strategy, and skill under pressure, our talented student gamers dominated the field and ultimately placed first, bringing home an unforgettable victory and the championship title.
What a fantastic week of learning beyond the classroom!
Our Year 10 cohort stepped into the workplace, gaining valuable real-world experience across a wide range of industries.
From healthcare and hospitality to construction, business, education, fitness and more, students embraced every opportunity to develop new skills, build confidence and explore future career pathways.
We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from both employers and students, with many commending our Year 10s for their enthusiasm, professionalism and willingness to learn.
A huge thank you to all of our host employers for generously sharing their time, knowledge and expertise to inspire the next generation.
Well done Year 10, we’re proud of the way you represented our school!
Our Year 12 Geography students, accompanied by Ms Robertson, travelled to Barangaroo in the CBD to conduct fieldwork on one of the most dynamic urban environments in Australia.
Practising important geographical skills such as mapping, observing and recording, students also conducted surveys by interviewing members of the public.
A highlight was seeing the recently opened Cutaway space and how this public infrastructure aligned with the urban management and revitalisation of an entire area which was once a vast container storage space for the Darling Harbour docks.
In early June, Year 12 Modern History students, accompanied by Mrs Prica, travelled to the University of Sydney to hear lectures on their HSC topics. These included talks on the early Soviet State, the Cold War, and Apartheid-era South Africa. Impressed by the venue, students took copious notes and were able to apply some of the insights gained from their notes in their Term 2 assessments.
Year 12 Ancient History and History Extension students, accompanied by Mr Brady and Mr Harrison, gave up their Saturday to also travel to the University of Sydney. Our Ancient students heard lectures about Pharoah Akhenaten from the HSC head marker. They also heard about the astonishing advances in research concerning the destruction of Pompeii and Herculaneum from an archaeologist who has worked on site.
At the same time our Extension students attended workshops about their Major Work, a 2500-word essay of an historiographical focus, which have all been successfully submitted at the end of the term. This achievement is the result of countless hours by the students to research dozens of sources each, construct a sophisticated thesis and refine their arguments under the supervision of Mr Brady.
Year 12 Society and Culture, accompanied by Miss Scibilia and Mr Mak, travelled to the Wesley Centre in the city for a series of workshops on their depth studies.
Students appreciated the detailed and relevant strategies that were demonstrated to address HSC questions on the topic of Belief Systems and Ideologies.
Ms Robertson and our Year 11 Geography students travelled to the Northern Beaches Council's Coastal Environment Centre to conduct fieldwork on the natural processes and ecosystems of Narrabeen and Collaroy.
Students were given access to professional geographic tools to conduct research on the beach and dunes.
They were also able to inspect the collection on display of biological and non-biological specimens that are endemic to the Northern Beaches area.
In Week 10, our Year 7 students attended a Chinese cultural excursion where they learned how to season the dumpling filling, wrap dumplings, and make plenty of them.
After all their hard work, they enjoyed eating the delicious dumplings they had made themselves. It was a fun, hands-on experience that created lasting memories and gave students a greater appreciation of Chinese culture.
Our Advanced English students had a fabulous opportunity to enrich their understanding of The Crucible at the Sport for Jove Symposium.
They behaved impeccably and benefitted greatly from the insights shared into the tragedy and human experiences.
Annabel A. said “it was a great time of year to rewatch the Crucible, I felt able to be present and engaged in a play we studied months ago.”
Hayley S. said “it gave a really valuable and intimate perspective into The Crucible and all of its nuances”.
On 15 June, ten of our First Nations students attended a cultural outing together with students from across the college.
Students visited West Head to learn about the importance of continuing culture through a variety of activities, including hearing from Uncle Laurie, the display of cultural items, interactive boomerang experiences, storytelling, ochre face paint and the visiting at local sites (rock painting and rock carving).
Boundik student Isaac noted "the resonance of Uncle Laurie's story telling was profound, reminding me of the importance of sharing knowledge just like our ancestors did".
Our Yr 10 HPGE students attended Narraweena and Wheeler Heights primary schools to deliver our writing program for Year 6 students.
Using the TEEL framework, they guided younger students through the art of constructing a well-structured paragraph, making the learning both meaningful and accessible.
It was wonderful to see our senior students embrace the role of teacher with such warmth and capability, building genuine connections across our two schools.
A big congratulations to all involved — this is exactly the kind of initiative that brings out the best in our students and our community.
Our Year 10 students have been busy exploring career pathways and planning for the future this term!
A number of students are currently participating in TAFE Start Your Future short courses in Hospitality, Carpentry, and Hair & Beauty. These programs provide students with valuable exposure to a TAFE-style learning environment and vocational education pathways connected to future study and career interests.
Students have also been engaging in one-on-one Pathway Interviews with a specialist Stage 6 teacher — a unique Cromer initiative designed to support subject selection, goal setting, and future planning for Stage 6 and beyond.
In preparation for Work Experience at the end of term, Year 10 students also participated in a Job Readiness Workshop, developing fundamental employability skills and learning how to conduct themselves in a professional workplace environment. There were plenty of fun challenges and engaging stories shared along the way!
A big thank you to Matt Dolan and the EPP team for supporting these initiatives and helping provide our students with high-quality learning experiences in career education and pathway planning.
A select group of Year 12 students recently attended the Northern Beaches Career Expo, gaining valuable insights into life after school and exploring a range of future pathways.
Students heard from guest speakers representing UAC and VET, learning about university admissions, vocational education options, and the many routes available beyond the HSC. They also had the opportunity to connect with ambassadors from universities, colleges, Northern Beaches Council, the Australian Defence Force, gap year providers, and a variety of industry organisations.
The expo provided a fantastic opportunity for students to ask questions, gather information, and start planning their next steps with confidence.
We look forward to seeing how these experiences help shape their future goals and aspirations.
A fantastic turnout from our Year 12 students at the Macquarie University Early Entry Writing Workshop!
The workshop provided valuable guidance for students preparing their early entry applications, highlighting one of the many pathways into university that recognises more than just academic results.
A special thank you to our 2024 School Captain, Zach, who returned to deliver the workshop and share his own experiences and advice. We appreciate you giving back to our school community and supporting our Year 12 students as they prepare for life beyond school.
During the last two weeks of term, Year 12 Adviser Mr Hillsmith ran a "Get Caught Studying Challenge".
Any student 'caught' studying in the Library got a ticket in a prize draw. Over a 10 day period we had close to 100 entries nominated by our Year 12 Teachers and the library staff.
The students were really invested in the challenge and the prizes went to very worthy recipients!
Congratulations Andi L, Bella H, Poppy S & Laura F.
Yr 9 Child Studies
This term, our Year 9 Child Studies elective students have been engaging in a practical and insightful project to deepen their understanding of the commitment and responsibility involved in parenthood.
As part of the course, students designed and created replica nurseries, thoughtfully considering the essential needs of infants.
To further appreciate the challenges of caring for a newborn, students also took on the unique task of caring for an egg over the course of a week.
This hands-on experience encouraged them to develop patience, responsibility, and empathy as they documented their daily routines and reflections throughout the project.
We commend our Year 9 Child Studies students for their enthusiasm and thoughtful participation in this meaningful project.
We are happy to report that no eggs were scrambled in this project!
As a part of the Module Waste Management, students conducted a waste audit of rubbish.
This was collected in one day from various locations within the school. This is a compulsory component of the course and it was great to see both the groups working cohesively and cooperatively with each other.
The results were interesting and students were amazed to see how much stuff ends up in landfill, some of which could be separated and recycled to reuse.
Even though there were some comments concerning the smell and ‘yuckiness’, students, on the whole said that “it actually was fun” on some level.
Students did appear to enjoy the experience but were also very happy that they now have the data to work with moving forward.
Year 8 students have been learning about the chemical world, with a particular focus on metals.
One of the more explosive and exiting parts of science is the reaction between sodium and water, which is highly reactive, releasing a massive amount of energy, through the production, and subsequent burning of hydrogen gas.
No students, or teachers were harmed in this demonstration – thankfully! Safety first, always.
Students are learning about how cells are organised into tissues, organs, organ systems, and ultimately organisms.
We were able to perform dissections on rats, in order to observe the anatomy of these mammals, who have a remarkably similar structure to ourselves.
The students found the experience enlightening, and a rather humbling experience to know that we ourselves are not that different from any other mammal.
Year 8 have been honing their creativity skills by designing their own dessert in Mini Major Works.
They did an incredible job of researching, designing and producing their very own dessert with the best part being the eating!!
Well done year 8!
This term Yr 8 created a cooking video entirely in Chinese.
From introducing ingredients to explaining each cooking step, students confidently used their Chinese language skills in a fun, authentic, and interactive setting. This exciting project not only strengthened their speaking abilities but also deepened their appreciation of Chinese culture.
It was a meaningful, creative, and enjoyable experience that everyone thoroughly enjoyed!
This term, Class M have been perfecting the art of making Speedy Rice! Every fortnight, the students plan and prepare their recipe, choosing special ingredients to add each week which they proudly call "pimping the recipe" all while developing their independence and cooking skills.
Each time they cook, they become faster, more confident and more capable in the kitchen. Once the cooking is complete, the students work together to wash up and leave the kitchen sparkling clean before sitting down to enjoy their delicious creations.
Last term, Class M mastered the art of making and "pimping" pikelets, and we can't wait to see what exciting recipes they tackle next term!

Inspired by dazzling fireworks displays, the work reflects the thrill and excitement of pyrotechnics through lively syncopated rhythms, mixed metre and energetic percussion writing. From quiet moments of anticipation to brilliant bursts of sound, the piece paints a vivid musical picture of fireworks illuminating the night sky. The students embraced the colourful and at times explosive character of the music, bringing excitement and energy to the stage.
At the recent Extreme Eisteddfod, ensembles and elective dance groups took to the stage in incredibly competitive sections, and we couldn’t be prouder of their hard work, energy and team spirit.

Students are encouraged to visit during lunchtime or before school to browse the new arrivals, check out recommendations from library staff, and be among the first to enjoy these additions!
One of the standout trends in our borrowing over the past 12 months has been the growing popularity of crime and mystery novels. This genre has captivated readers of all ages with stories that challenge your wit and keep you guessing.
Our featured collection includes contemporary mysteries, classic detective stories, and books with diverse characters and settings. From suspenseful thrillers to gentle whodunits, there’s something for everyone. Check out our display in the Lower Library!

In Week 10, we ran a “Read and Return" competition, encouraging students to make the most of our book collection and celebrate reading. We wanted to promote reading for enjoyment while making sure books are circulated and available for all.
Every student who borrowed or returned a book between Monday and Friday was entered into a prize draw.
Congratulations to our winner - Timothee L (yr 7)
A huge congratulations to our Open Girls Softball Team took home bronze in the NSW State finals. The girls were outstanding throughout the tournament, starting strongly with dominant wins over South Sydney High School 18–0 and Engadine High School 14–0. These impressive performances saw the team progress through to the semi-finals, where they were narrowly defeated by a strong Hills Sports High School side.
Following a tough loss, the girls showed outstanding resilience and determination, bouncing back to defeat The Ponds High School and secure 3rd place in the state. This is an incredible achievement and a reflection of the girls’ skill, teamwork and commitment. We are extremely proud of their efforts and the way they represented our school. Well done, girls!
Team:
Our 15s Girls Knockout Basketball Team played against Manly Selective with this being the first experience of a knockout competition for all of our year 7 girls.
Whilst they unfortunately lost, the score didn't reflect the ongoing effort of the girls this semester. Going up against an older and more experienced team was challenging, however the girls showcased their resilience, staying competitive into the dying minutes of the game.
Incredibly proud of their efforts and can't wait to see how they progress further!
Team: Amalia S, Izzy C, Evie R, Violet P, Summer W, Ava H, Minnie N, Lucia K

After facing a few tough losses at the start of the season, the girls showed outstanding resilience and kept working incredibly hard.
Facing tough opponents in the Grand Final, the girls were down by 5 points with 2 minutes to go, however, the girls went into the final minute of the game tied up. With 20 seconds left, we made a basket to officially win the game!
A massive congratulations to all of the girls, and their dedication to improving throughout the season. They have been an absolute pleasure to coach and I can’t wait to see what the next season brings!!

Harley, Oscar and Heath proudly represented NBSC Cromer, finishing an impressive third in the region.
The boys had a wonderful day, demonstrating outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship while making new friends along the way.
Their success reflects the skills they have developed through our Wednesday Home Sports program, where Boccia is a regular activity.
We are incredibly proud of their achievements and are already looking forward to next year's competition. With their enthusiasm and determination, we may well have some future Boccia Paralympians in the making!
Our students achieved outstanding results at this year’s Sydney North Cross Country Championships, held at Wyong Racecourse.
Dane, Mia and Arabella all ran exceptionally well, with each finishing in the top three of their respective age groups—an outstanding achievement against strong competition.
Congratulations to all three students on their fantastic performances. We wish them every success as they represent Sydney North at the State Cross Country Championships next term.
Huge congratulations to our U14 Boys Rugby League team on an outstanding campaign, taking out both the Manly City Cup and Buckley Shield!
The boys showed grit, skill, and teamwork throughout the competition, finishing with some dominant performances:
✅ 42–6 vs The Forest HS
✅ 34–6 vs Marsden HS
✅ 26–4 vs Davidson HS
✅ 36–0 vs Killara HS (Semi Final)

This achievement was built on a genuine team effort, with every player contributing to the success.
Special mentions to:
- Jacob E for his exceptional ball-playing skills and strong defensive efforts

A fantastic reward for the hard work, commitment, and mateship shown all season. Well done boys and good luck at the next round — a proud achievement for the team and school!
Our open boys rugby league side showed grit and growing confidence across three tightly contested matches at the recent gala day, with each game decided by the narrowest of margins.
Game 1 vs Narrabeen Sports High got off to a tough start, with Narrabeen scoring first off repeat sets. Cromer hit back through some smart playmaking from Jayden C, who set up Hassan H for a beautiful try in the corner. But despite brave defence from Cromer, the opposition went on to win 8–4.
Game 2 vs Concord saw a strong kick chase from Concord lead to an early try. Beau M's powerful running sparked a Cromer fightback before Concord scored again against the run of play. A real team effort, backed by some strong running from Joel T, levelled the scores. A pressure kick after the bell narrowly missed, leaving the final score 8–8.
Game 3 was another nail-biter. Jayden C produced penetrating runs and a try, while captain-coach Tommy H impressed with classy finishing, but Cromer fell 10–8 on the bell.
The Open Girls Touch Football team travelled to Gosford to compete in the Sydney North Finals Series, proudly representing Cromer Campus against some of the region's strongest schools.
In our opening match, the girls played an outstanding game against Cheltenham Girls. It was a tightly contested battle from start to finish, with tries scored by Ayva-Jane and Lillian A. Unfortunately, Cheltenham crossed for the winning try right on the final buzzer, leaving Cromer narrowly defeated 3–2.
The second match saw us take on our neighbours, Narrabeen Sports High. Despite a determined effort, Narrabeen proved too strong on the day, with Cromer going down 4–0.
Special mentions go to Sienna M who worked tirelessly on the wing and remained on the field for the majority of both matches. Miki V, Ayva -Jane, Elizabeth E and Charlotte W whose defensive efforts were outstanding throughout the tournament. Lily R, Jasmine M, Lillian A and Nala H who consistently drove the ball forward and provided strong attacking momentum for the team.
While injuries prevented some players from taking the field, their support certainly did not go unnoticed. Shay (broken collarbone), Poppy (broken finger) both made the trip to Gosford to cheer on their teammates.
Congratulations to our Open Boys Tennis team who won 5 of their 8 matches against Normanhurst High!
Our A Team comprising of Sava and Harrison played in the first of our doubles matches winning 6-0. The B Team comprising of Edin and Luka, played with confidence, to win 6-4.
The boys went into the singles matches feeling strong. Harrison led the team with a convincing victory 6-0 followed by Sava, in a close match, with a 7-5 victory. Our Year 7 boys held strong taking several games, however, both Edin and Luka went down 4-6 and 2-6.
After 6 matches we were in the lead 4 to 2 requiring one more win to secure a place in the Quarter Finals. In the reverse doubles match, the B team lost 0-6 against their in-form A team. Our A team were again successful, with a 6-1 win!
We proudly congratulate Micah W, one of our outstanding students on earning a basketball scholarship to continue his schooling at Utah Prep Academy in the USA.

He competed in both the 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle, recording personal best times in each event. It was in the 100m Freestyle where he really shone — after being seeded 40th going into the heats, he produced a strong swim to win his heat and qualify for the B Final. He came back at night to swim under lights and produced another personal best to ultimately finish the 100 freestyle ranked 13th fastest 17-year-old in Australia.
It was a terrific achievement and a great reward for his hard work. He thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience and has returned highly motivated.

A number of NBSC Cromer Campus students have been performing this term in Clash of the Bands, a live music competition held at the Avalon Bowlo that showcases young local rock bands.
Year 10 students Annalise R and Ruby J are members of Moonburn, who performed in Round 1 of the competition. Their set was well received and the band has been invited to return for the Comeback Round later this year.
Year 11 student Spencer W and Year 12 student Armand S perform with Trepan, who competed in Round 3. The band impressed with their performance and progressed through to the semifinals.
The competition has given students the chance to perform in a real live music venue, play to enthusiastic crowds and experience what it is like to be part of the local music scene. It has also been fantastic to see our students pursuing their musical interests outside of school and supporting one another as performers.
We congratulate Annalise, Ruby, Spencer and Armand on their achievements so far and wish Moonburn and Trepan all the best in the upcoming rounds of the competition.
