Each week students undertake mathematical learning in a problem solving situation. These lessons are based on real-life math. These engaging activities require students to justify, reason and use 'trial and error' to create understandings.
Number Talks are short, daily learning experiences aimed at building number sense. Number sense is the ability to play with numbers, meaning students can problem solve mentally, perform calculations quickly, and are flexible in their mathematical strategy. Students who have strong number sense solve problems in more than one way and check that their answers make sense. As a part of this routine, students are sharing their strategies, asking their peers questions to confirm their understanding and explain their own thinking all while the teacher records the strategies used by students.
Our SSF Sessions are short sharp focused lessons where students play and learn through quality hands on, differentiated numeracy games and activities.
