The security of an account is very important as there can be valuable assets which need to be kept safe, like money or information. The system protects people through the use of passwords, email confirmations and detailed transaction details. Another purpose of the information system is to allow easy access for transactions and getting into the customers accounts. This is done by quickly checking going through the systems information to match the credit card information and pin number with your account within a couple of second, it is able to do this through the fast hardware and software of the system and the organisation of the data.
There are several purposes of an information system, this doesn't change for Westpac. Some companies say their collection and organisation of information is to help improve the customer experience, which is true. Westpac can collect information about certain trends with there transaction method (tap and go, swipe, card information), amount for loans/amount of loans they give, amount of transactions, location of transaction, etc. With this information they could create better way for people to make transactions, increase or decrease interest rate according to how many people have loans.
