Data and Information

Data: data is unorganised facts and statistics. It is really useless in this state as it has no meaning or purpose as nothing can be derived from it.

Westpac receives so much data through many various sources of theirs. The data they collect include:

• card id
• pin
• amount
• name
• email
• phone number
• Cost, time, accounts (transaction details)

Information: information is processed and organised data. It is structured, organised or formatted in a certain way to be able to present it and give the data meaning and cohesion. This makes the information useful.

• Balance
• Bank account (of seller and buyer)
• Transaction details (Cost, time, accounts)
