Resilience

2020 surely is testing our resilience!

Resilience is what helps us cope when things go wrong. The more resilient we are, the more easily we can get through difficult times and cope with periods of stress.

It is essential for our mental health. Resilience is not something we are simply born with.

Now is a great time to build resilience in our young ones and there are many ways to do this.

  • Role model resilience. How do you cope with stress? Children are watching (and learning from) everything we do!

  • Focus on the positives! Don’t dwell on the negatives or the things that we have no control of.

  • Help your child build relationships with others – both adults and peers. Feeling connected with others promotes self-esteem and lowers feelings of depression and anxiety.

  • Encourage your child to talk about their emotions and discuss ways to manage their feelings.

  • Build their confidence by allowing independence and opportunities to take on challenges.

  • Help your child solve their own problems, rather than simply resolving it for them (even if it is quicker and easier!).

Learning and Support Team LAST

In NSW public schools the Learning Support Team is a whole school planning and support mechanism. Our purpose is to address the learning support needs of individual and groups of students through the coordination, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of educational programs. We work shoulder to shoulder with class teachers to support them to meet the needs of their students.

Supervised by Lux Senthil (Deputy) and led by Yanna Fitsakis (AP), your Learning and Support Team is here to facilitate you in supporting the diverse needs of your students. Yanna (Mon-Thurs) works alongside Ross Bowey (LaST, Mon-Tues) and Belinda Yates (LaST, Wed-Fri) and together they co-ordinate our skilled and experienced SLSOs. The LaST also collaborates closely with with our EAL/D Teachers Narelle Lucas and Deb Bowey to ensure we meet the needs of our diverse community of learners. Our School Counsellors, Lauren Goldring (Mon/Tues) and Ben Bramston (Wed-Fri) also bring a wealth of expertise to our team.
