Year 7

Gifted and Talented Program

2020

Welcome to the world of the Year 7 Gifted and Talented program at Burwood Girls High School

Due to COVID-19 restrictions we were unable to host the launch event at school and invite you all to celebrate the achievements of this wonderful group of students. So instead, I have created this site for you to browse the various projects and profiles of the students involved.

As my first year in this role as Gifted and Talented Coordinator, I am very grateful for the guidance of the previous coordinator, Mrs Margaret Nowak. She not only established the program but spent 16 years refining and developing it to be what it is today. Whilst there were a few differences this year, I hope that it has been just as rewarding for the students involved.

Thank you to Ms Mia Kumar for her ongoing support of the program and valuing High Potential and Gifted Education opportunities.

I also need to thank Ms Jenny Tran who has assisted with the program this year due to the large number of students involved. Her guidance and support of the students has been valued.

Thank you to the all parents, students and teachers that helped mentor and encourage the students - Ruby Hensley (Past GAT), the Year 9 & 10 Futures Learning classes, Ms Thomson & Ms Nguyen. And a very special mention to Aditi Kamath and Mali Proepper, past GAT students from Year 8, who were invaluable. They not only helped guide the students during their final weeks but they also filmed all of the launch speeches, photographed and filmed the creative modes and then also compiled these into videos of each student's creative mode.

And finally, thank you to all the students that participated in the program this year. You have been an absolute pleasure to work with and I have valued the opportunity to support you throughout your journey this year.

Ana Welsh - Year 7 Gifted and Talented Coordinator.

Below is a short slide show that gives an overview of the program created by Uyennhi Mai. This slideshow was created to accompany the speech given by other GAT students at the Recognition Assembly.
