Welcome to our Kindergarten Transition 2023 Website. We hope that this website provides you and your child with all the information and resources you need to prepare your child for this very important time in their lives (and yours) when they commence their primary school education.

My name is Mandy Hollis and I am the Principal of this wonderful school. I was a teacher for 17 years prior to becoming a Principal, where I taught students in every year right from Kindergarten through to Year 6 over my 17 years of full time teaching. I have been a Principal for 14 years. I absolutely love being a Principal. I especially love being the Principal of Barnier Public School. It’s a joy and a privilege. I’ve been at Barnier for 5 years.

Kindergarten is a very important year. Our teachers at Barnier are very passionate, caring, dedicated and hard working. They strive to do their very best every single day to ensure that every child in their care achieves their personal best and the highest possible educational outcomes within a safe, exciting and very happy learning environment. The education and wellbeing of all our students is our highest priority. Barnier is a school community where staff, students and parents all work together to make our school an exemplary and welcoming place to learn. It is a school where students thrive in all aspects of their learning.

In Kindergarten children will learn effective communication skills, they will learn how to express ideas and describe their observations. They will begin developing reading and comprehension skills. They will learn to recognise and name simple words and sounds. They will learn to write simple words and sentences. They will learn about punctuation. They will learn to count, add and subtract. They will make equal groups. They will learn to use mathematical language and learn concepts of time, measurement and space. They will make friends and enjoy curriculum areas such as Science & Technology, Geography, History, Music, Visual Arts, Health and Physical Education. It’s an exciting year. Every day they will be showing their teachers and parents just how clever they are. The learning and the rate of learning in a child’s first year of school is just amazing. Every day they do something they couldn’t do the day before!! It’s an exciting time for them and their teachers.

As a parent myself, I understand that it can be an anxious time for parents and students. I would like to assure you all that your children are in very safe, caring, competent and experienced hands right from the very first day of their enrolment at Barnier Public School.
