National Cross Country Championships

We wish Channing the very best of luck as he competes in the National Cross Country Championships.

If you would like to support Channing, the NSW Representative Team is running a raffle, with tickets available for purchase from our school office. Tickets are $5 each, with prizes including an Apple iPad Pro, Rebel vouchers and a JBL Flip portable Bluetooth speaker.

Sydney East Athletics Carnival

We wish Lola, Channing, Lily, Rory, Harry, Nicholas, Scarlett, Ollie and Milla all the best as they head to the Regional Athletics Carnival on 14 September.

What an amazing achievement to have so many of our students competing at this level! We are incredibly proud of you all and know you will represent YPS with pride.

Public Speaking Competition

Congratulations to all of our students on completing their speeches in class. You should be very proud of the effort, courage and confidence you demonstrated in sharing your ideas.

Public speaking is a wonderful skill that takes practice and bravery, and each of you rose to the challenge. We now look forward to supporting our class representatives as they take the stage in the finals next week.

We wish them the very best of luck as they showcase their talents, and we extend a special thank you to Mrs Bryant for her support and organisation.

We are very excited to announce that we have won a State Award for this year’s production, The Pride in Us, and will be performing at NIDA on Wednesday 16 September!

This is a fantastic accomplishment, and we are so proud of everyone who has contributed to this amazing achievement.

“This was a wonderful story that was instantly recognisable and easy for the audience to connect with. The set pieces, visuals and costumes all worked together beautifully to support the storytelling. It was impressive how the students were able to tell such a complete story in a short amount of time, with every scene flowing naturally into the next. The performance was incredibly well rehearsed, and the cast brought so much character, energy and life to the stage. The choreography was strong and made excellent use of the performance space, incorporating lifts, tricks, turns and jumps to create exciting stage pictures. The illuminated hands were a particularly effective visual element, adding a magical touch to an already engaging performance. A polished and entertaining production with so many memorable moments.”

A huge thank you to the parents who have already volunteered to assist with face painting and hair on 16 September. If you are available to help on the day, we would love to hear from you.

As a result of making it through to NIDA, we need to make some changes to the school calendar. We are currently in discussions with Dance Curriculum to find an alternative week in Term 4. Our Parent Teacher Interviews by Request will also need to be moved. Stay tuned for further communication about both of these changes.

Junior Choir at SSSMF

Our amazing choir performed at The Pavilion as part of the SSSMF Concert. They performed beautifully and were wonderful representatives of our school.

Thank you to Mrs Greening and Miss Fiona for supporting our choir and providing them with this fantastic opportunity.

Rep Dance

Chookas to our Rep Dance team, who will represent the school at the Menai Eisteddfod next month.

Staff News

On behalf of the whole YPS community, I would like to officially congratulate Miss Makenna on her wedding. We wish you both every happiness as you begin this exciting new chapter together.

Miss Kathleen Holder, our substantive School Administration Manager (SAM), who is currently on secondment as Business Manager at Bankstown Public School, has let us know that she is expecting a baby boy in November.

We wish Kathleen all the very best and cannot wait to meet the newest member of her family! Mrs Michelle Lentholm will continue in the SAM role at YPS.

SASS Week

This week is an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate our amazing support staff.

Miss Michelle, Miss Olivia, Mrs Morando, Mr Brian, Miss Fiona, Mr Jai, Mrs Lewis, Mrs Camelotti, Miss Makenna, Miss Mollie and Miss Nicole are all deeply appreciated every day, but this week gives us the opportunity to formally celebrate them and acknowledge everything they do for our students, staff and school community.

If you see them around the school this week, please take the opportunity to thank them and celebrate the important contribution they make to our amazing school.

Principals’ Day

I would like to sincerely thank you all for the thoughtful messages, kind words and gestures of appreciation for Principals’ Day. Your acknowledgement truly means so much to me and reminds me of the incredible community I have the privilege of serving.

Being the principal of this school is more than just a role; it is a joy and an honour. Each day, I have the opportunity to work alongside dedicated staff, watch our students grow and thrive, and partner with families who care deeply about their children’s education.

YPS is a very special place, and I am grateful every day to be part of it.

Thank you again for making me feel so valued. I am proud to be your principal and even prouder of the amazing community we have built together.

Open Day

Many thanks to everyone who attended our Public Education Week Open Day. It was a beautiful day, giving us the opportunity to share our classrooms, watch our talented students perform and enjoy the company of our wider community.

Thank you to Miss Chesworth and all of our supporting staff for organising such a wonderful Open Day, and to our P&C for providing the afternoon tea snack boxes.

Professional Learning

It’s not just our students who are becoming lifelong learners!

Our teachers enjoyed a day of professional learning last Thursday, focusing on the latest evidence-based practices in the teaching of spelling.

These professional learning days are vital to continually improving our teaching practice and, ultimately, student outcomes. It is wonderful to see the impact of this ongoing work reflected in our students’ results.

Our student numbers for 2027 are very close to the point where we will be able to form 11 classes next year!

Kindergarten Enrolment

Yet to enrol your little one for Kindergarten? Please do so as soon as possible, as we are busy preparing for our Kindergarten Orientation Program, which will commence early in Term 4.

We are looking forward to welcoming our littlest learners and giving them the best possible start to their primary school journey.

Father’s Day

Wishing all YPS fathers and father figures a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday.
