The HSIE faculty was delighted to host our annual Year 5 and 6 taster lessons, welcoming future students for an exciting hands-on introduction to Geography. This year’s sessions focused on latitude and longitude, giving students the opportunity to explore how these key geographical concepts help us navigate the world. Through an engaging and interactive lesson, students created their own globes, carefully marking the Equator, Prime Meridian, and key lines of latitude and longitude. This activity helped them visualize how we use coordinates to pinpoint locations across the planet.
To take their learning even further, students also had a go at sketching the continents onto their globes, applying their knowledge of world geography in a fun and creative way. These taster lessons not only introduced students to key HSIE skills but also showcased the engaging and hands-on approach that makes studying Geography so exciting. The HSIE faculty always looks forward to these sessions, as they provide a fantastic opportunity to inspire curiosity about the world and welcome the next generation of students into our learning community.
