Our Senior Ancient History students recently had the incredible opportunity to visit the Ramses & Gold of the Pharaohs exhibition in Sydney, an immersive experience that brought the grandeur of ancient Egypt to life. This multisensory museum showcase provided students with a deeper understanding of the life and legacy of Ramses II, one of Egypt’s most powerful and influential pharaohs. Featuring 182 priceless artifacts, including the magnificent sarcophagus of Ramses II, the exhibition highlighted the artistry, culture, and technological advancements of the New Kingdom period. Students observed stunning relics such as royal masks, intricate jewellery, mummified remains, and golden treasures, gaining insight into the craftsmanship and beliefs that shaped ancient Egyptian civilization.
A highlight of the excursion was the virtual reality experience, which transported students through Ramses' greatest architectural achievements, including the temples of Abu Simbel and the Tomb of Queen Nefertari. Sitting in motion chairs, students were taken on a breathtaking journey through ancient structures, sandstorms, and even came face-to-face with Ramses' mummified remains. This excursion provided a unique hands-on learning experience, directly linking to the Stage 6 Ancient History syllabus, particularly the study of historical sources, funerary practices, and the significance of pharaohs in shaping Egyptian society. By seeing history come alive through real artifacts and cutting-edge technology, students left with a greater appreciation for the enduring legacy of Ramses the Great and the world of ancient Egypt.
