LearNing Plans

How do I know which learning tasks I should prioritise during the day?

K-2

Yellow English tasks and Orange Maths task items, marked with an asterisks = Must Do (Complete 1st)

Then as interest allows, ensuring that there is coverage across the coloured elements of the syllabus as the timetable dictates.

Yr3-6

Tasks marked with an asterisk = Priority tasks (Complete 1st) each day

Daily Tasks

Some assigned tasks may be marked 'Daily'. This means you complete the same task EVERY day. 'Daily' tasks will be posted once, at the start of the week.

The first thing you could do each morning is look at what you need to complete that day and create a timetable. Remember to complete your MUST DO tasks first. Don't forget to give yourself time for breaks and exercise!

How much time should be spent on learning at home each day?

Remember that every child works at a different pace and requires a different level of support to complete tasks and therefore your daily schedule may look different to the family next door.

However, our teachers have used the Department's guide when planning and programming for home learning tasks.

Parent responsibilities

Advice to parents and carers

  • establish routines and expectations that suit your family situation

  • define a space for your child to work in

  • monitor communications from teachers and contact only within school hours

  • take an active role in helping your children process their learning

  • encourage physical activity and/or exercise

  • check in with your child regularly to help them manage stress

  • monitor how much time your child is spending online

  • keep your children social, but set rules around their social media interactions.

Student responsibilities

These responsibilities should be adjusted according to the age of your child:

  • establish and/or follow a daily routine for learning

  • identify a safe, comfortable, quiet space in your home where you can work effectively and successfully

  • show your learning engagement (Tick 'Yes' for Class roll in Google Classroom 3-6 or upload daily assigned tasks.

  • K-2 post daily tasks onto Seesaw to show learning and engagement.

  • regularly monitor digital platforms and communication (Google Classroom, Seesaw, email, etc.) to check for announcements and feedback from teachers

  • complete tasks with integrity and academic honesty, doing your best work

  • do your best to meet timelines, commitments, and due dates

  • communicate proactively and respectively with your teachers if you cannot meet due dates or you require additional support

  • collaborate and support your classmates in their learning

  • comply with Abbotsford PS Online Etiquette guidelines and the Departments' Student use of digital devices and online services policy

Routines and expectations

Teachers will provide your child with a schedule and activities/assigned tasks for their learning each week. It is important that students get up and move around during the day and have plenty of time for physical activity eg. bike ride, scooter ride, kicking a ball, skipping.

Keep normal bedtime routines for younger children and expect the same from your older primary and high school-aged children too. It will make the transition back to face to face learning easier!

For more information, refer to Remote Learning Guidelines of Parents and Remote Learning Guidelines for Students

Setting up a learning environment

Try to create a quiet and comfortable learning space. Your child may have a regular place for doing home learning under normal circumstances, but this space may not be suitable for working in for an extended period of time.

A space/location for extended learning should be a public/family space, not in a bedroom. It should be a place that can be quiet at times and have a strong wireless internet signal, if possible. Above all, it should be a space where you or another adult is present and monitoring your children's learning.

Refer to the Learning environment checklist for more advice.
