Aboriginal Music

Overview

In this course, you will learn about the characteristics of Aboriginal music and the importance of language and the arts for maintaining culture. You will study music within its cultural context and recognise both traditional and contemporary Aboriginal Music. You will then consider the role of music within your own cultural heritage and create a podcast celebrating diversity.

Acknowledgement of Country

As we commence our learning in this unit, let us acknowledge the traditional custodians of all of the lands you learn from, for they have performed age-old ceremonies of storytelling, music, dance, celebrations and renewal, and, along with all Aboriginal people, hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and hopes of Aboriginal Australia.

Let us also acknowledge this living culture and its unique role in the life of Australia today.

Finally, let us acknowledge with honour and respect our Elders past, present and future, especially those Aboriginal people in our presence today, who have, and still do, guide us with their wisdom.
