This is a course for those students who have an interest in learning about Aboriginal Peoples, their histories, cultures and connections. It provides students with the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding from a First Nation teacher. It is designed to be inclusive of all students providing opportunities to recognise and respect the knowledges and practices of Aboriginal Peoples, identities and lived experiences by providing deeper insights that can enable more respectful and reciprocal engagement with Aboriginal Peoples and communities.
Students will learn through practical components of art, craft, dance, music, guest speakers and On Country experiences.
The course will include interactive practices and classroom learning involving – Sustainability, Ethical Understanding, Intercultural Understanding, Personal and Social Capabilities, Civics and Citizenship, and Difference and Diversity. We will acknowledge Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ histories and cultures as well.
Students will develop knowledge about the historical and contemporary experiences of Aboriginal Peoples, and the range of relationships with non-Aboriginal people, which contributes to ethical and empathetic understandings that are of value to students’ personal, social, cultural, academic and professional development. Students can become active and informed advocates for a just and inclusive world.
