Greetings! Happy spring! I hope you find these resources helpful! BREAKING: (New KDE Commissioner was named today)
First, the Kentucky Association of School Librarians needs you to share your awesome ideas and expertise! Please use this form to submit a session(s) for the 2024 KASL Summer Refresher. All proposals are due by March 29, 2024.
Second, registration for the Refresher is now open! This part is important. If you are a Kentucky Library Association member, you will potentially save $95 on this 1.5 day of professional learning, for and by school librarians. Current KLA members have already received a discount code. To get this member benefit, you must join the KLA and choose KASL as your section (Directions for joining KLA). KLA membership is $65. Joining KLA before registering for the refresher will save you $30, plus you will be a KLA member!
Please contact Summer Refresher co-chairs Claire Lanham or Jonathan Paff with any questions.
I saw many of you last week at #KySTE24. It was a great conference, and I thought the transition to the new space went really well. So many of you not only attended but also shared your knowledge and perspectives as presenters! I wish there were four or five of me so I could get to every presentation.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to these collaborative notes! There is so much great content here. Check it out when you get a chance. Also... Please consider sharing your session (or a different one) again at the Summer Refresher!!
We talked about it in our short meetup... I've already started discussions to create a special and focused event for school librarians at #KySTE25. It will be sweet! Stay tuned. (photo credit: Kendra Waddell)
KBA 2024-2025 Nominees have been announced! Order your books now! AND...
It's FINALLY time to enter your votes for the Kentucky Bluegrass Awards! I know some of you have been itching to get them in!! The submission forms are under "Important Dates" and on each grade band's Resources page.
Happy Voting!

KET has named its 2024 class of All-Stars! Four of these twenty-one educators are school librarians!!! KET is always a great partner to KDE and to the library media world. Congratulations to Beth Atkins, media librarian, LeGrande Elementary School, Hart County Public Schools, Tim Jones, library media specialist with John F. Kennedy Elementary School, Louisville, Emily Northcutt, school librarian, Marnel C. Moorman School, Shelby County Public Schools, and Dee Dee Webb, school media specialist, school technology coordinator and robotics coach, South Warren Middle School, Bowling Green.
Speaking of recognition... KASL needs you to nominate (or self-nominate) school librarians who are doing great things. Not just librarians, but folks who create Kentucky-specific media, supportive administrators, collaborative rock-star teachers, and students doing outstanding work with technology. There's also a new award for school library assistants/clerks. PLEASE, check out the details and submission forms here.
Shew! Lots going on... Take care, and contact me if you need anything.
