There is a #KyLChat on Tuesday night, December 12 at 8:00 PM Eastern on the Clubhouse App. This one is all about STLP. New to STLP? Bring your questions. Experienced? Bring your awesome advice! You also can just listen in. It's like a live, poorly-produced podcast, but with great school library talk!
You will need to download the Clubhouse app ahead of time and get approved to enter the chat. This link should get you to the right spot. You can learn more at https://kylchat.com/.
Some folks are sharing some fun "countdowns, days of things, etc..." I wish they weren't all in December, but sometimes I come back to them when there is more time. I wanted to share a few of them in case you have not seen them.
Shannon Miller has shared the 27 Days of Digital Tools and Ideas from Future Ready Librarians.
Kristina Holzweiss is organizing one for Canva tips and tricks that you can check out.
Adobe Education has a cool one for 12 days of Adobe Express creativity challenges. I tried one to support my good friend, Donnie Piercey.
There are also so many end-of-the-year best books lists too... Just a few here: ALSC Notable Children's Books, New York Public Library, 2023 New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Books, Science Friday 2023’s Best Science Books For Kids, Book Riot - The 20 Best Books for Teens: 2023 Picks.

This past weekend, the School Library Journal Summit in Atlanta was an incredible opportunity for inspiration, collaboration, and growth! There were some great presentations by library leaders from across the country. This summit was a powerful reminder of your vital role and the difference you make each day. This is a Google Drive folder of resources that were shared in case you want to dig in some. Are you feeling like a pick-me-up? Check out this short talk from Jeff Kinney that SLJ just shared. “Books might be empathy machines, but librarians are the beating hearts of the communities they serve.” - Jeff Kinney.
On Friday at the KySTE Fall fall event, the KDE Office of Education Technology shared this draft policy brief on artificial intelligence. It's a great overview for anyone new to this topic. It also has some important "Policy-in-Action Spotlight" sections that will apply to all of us. This is an important and quickly evolving topic that is important for school librarians to stay on top of. I hope you find the document useful. Please let me know if you have any questions about it!
Kentucky Virtual Library invoices were sent to districts for the 23/24 school year. Unfortunately, 22/23 was the last year for reimbursement from KDE. The invoice email from KYVL has a great list of membership benefits. Please get in touch with KYVL if you have any questions about your invoice. kyvl@ky.gov
The bad news is that School Library Connection is no longer publishing new content. A small bit of good news is that we have access to all their online content for another year. There are 3300 articles on almost any school library topic, 65 webinars, and 46 self-paced courses. https://www.schoollibraryconnection.com/ Let me know if you need the username and password.
Don't hesitate to contact me any time if you need anything, and continue having a great year!!!
