ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORT 2018
Introduction
Sincerely, this Annual School Report is an attempt to showcase activities and achievements made in the academic year 2018. On the other hand, it is an instrument to find out our own shortcomings in various aspects of school functioning –a way to do better in future. We have reached many milestones that we have set in the beginning of the year giving us a sense of achievement. A few more milestones remain to be reached at or achieved yet. We were committed in creating conducive school environment to learners so as to facilitate both teaching and learning –help young minds to blossom and provide platform for individual thinking and holistic personality development of every child in the school. Be it in the area of academics, sports, discipline, and leadership, we set standards and goals for ourselves and strives to achieve them.
Established in 1987 as Sengteng (originally) Community School, the school catered to the needs of Lhop (Doya) and Rai Community for which the school was almost specifically meant. Of which it was first known as Doya Primary SChool. As time matured, it got upgraded to Sengdhyen Lower Secondary School having functioned as Primary School for quite long. For over three decades, the school has been preparing our children for better future. Supporting all students to reach their full potential academically, socially and emotionally is our main focus today. To reiterate, we promote quality education that emphasizes high academic standards, sound personal development, and positive social growth thus laying foundation for lifelong learning and personally fulfilling and productive life. These are ensured through the conduct of various academic and non-academic activities with mindfully preset goals and achievable objectives.

The week-long session really made us satisfied as we could make our children aware of some very essential human values –the values scaffold us to be productive citizens. Students also acquainted with information on how to get citizenship and its due process. Life skill education was one in which students learned some basics on how to have better life and how to overcome unexpected obstacles.

Conducting different co-curricular activities divert students’ attention from harmful activities like getting into drugs, crime and unethical activities. It channelizes their energies for fruitful activities. Physical activities like running, football, volleyball, etc., help not only in physical fitness but also refresh burdened students’ mind. Considering the numerous benefits of co-curricular activities, the school conducted different activities in the academic session 2018
1. Houses
The students from classes VI to VIII were divided into eight different houses: Bumpa, Dhug, Dungkhar, Gyeltshen, Khorlo, Meto, Pelbu and Serngya. Each house was managed by one or two teachers called House Parents and two students as House Captains (a boy and a girl). Grouping students into houses help in conducting day-to-day activities and competitions in a systematic and disciplined manner. It also enhances team building, ensures maximum participations, and serves as a check and balance in providing equal opportunity for students. Various Co-curricular activities were held among classes and houses to develop every child physically, morally, socially and mentally and to hone skills in co-scholastic areas.
2. Games and Sports
Sports competitions inculcate the spirit of positive challenges and sportsmanship in students and prepare them for their life ahead. Sports, games and physical fitness occupy a place of importance in our curriculum. Keeping these importances of games and sports in the life of students, the numerous games and sports activities were carried out for both boys and girls were students actively participated.
Some of the games and Sports activities conducted in the academic session 2018 were Football and Volleyball for both boys and girls.
Unlike previous year, the school could not conduct all the discipline of games and sports due to some unavoidable circumstances like elections, ad hoc visits of VVIP.
3. Cultural Activities
The Cultural Coordinator conducted many cultural activities to boost the traditional songs and dances of our country. Our cultural program was aimed to give all students the opportunity to involve in culturally enriching activities giving themselves chance to boost their talents. Our school being a boarding school has students from PP-VIII from different villages of two Geogs (blocks) of Dophuchen and Tading. The pre-primary students often land up being unhealthy due to not being able to care themselves hence in 2012 Mr. Dawa Tshering (currently working in Kamji Central School) initiated an idea under the name “Care and guidance Unit” (CAGU). For each adult student from classes VII-VIII they are given younger brothers from classes PP-III to be taken care for the whole year in terms of academic, social and health. To boost the energy and the working system we introduced with the system of awarding a badge and certificate at the end of the year.
In 2015 we adopted a new name for the program or a practice as “Adoption and Care Unit” (AECU). Every month we award a badge to a brother and sister who have exceptionally groomed their adopted brother and sister. This whole program was initiated in order to build bonding between younger and adult brother and also to give younger ones a homely feel.
We select the Best Caregiver through following criteria;
