Sengdhyen Lower Secondary School is under Dorokha Dungkhag, Samtse. It is connected by a farm road. The school was established in 1987 as Doya Community School with two teachers and forty students for the benefit of Lhop (Doya) and Rai communities. The school got upgraded to class IV in 1991 and then to VI in 1992. Having functioned as primary school for so long, the school finally got upgraded to Lower Secondary school in 2007.
The school underwent metamorphosis in the hands of different school heads. The school today is in the hand of 7th Principal, Mr. Singye and young energetic twenty-four teachers (including VP) and seven support staff who are well known for their unity in the Drungkhag proving at all times the two maxims: ‘together we stand, divided we fall’ and the other ‘together we achieve more’. For the system, we have ‘WE’ in the air not ‘I”.
Unlike in 1990s, the school caters to the needs of eight areas or the eight separate communities in the Dungkhag. Panbari which is under Samtse Dzongkhag and other few areas are also the catchment areas of the school. While Tarayana foundation takes the care of the present Lhop community (constitutes 5 villages: Jigme, Singye, Wangchuk, Sanglung, and Satakha), the future generations of the minority group (Lhop) is in custody with the school here –majority of students in this school being from one of the country’s minority groups –the Lhops.
