We explored the Titanic's sinking and related this to buoyancy and density. Mrs McDermott then tasked us to build lifeboats made from foil. We had to hold at least 35 marbles (represnting people) in them. The winners were Will and Harris who managed to hold 50 marbles in their foil boat.
Diwali
We enjoyed celebrating Diwali in class and learned lots about the religious festival's customs and traditions. We worked in groups to make Diwali sweets called Coconut Barfi and made some clay Diya lamps.Â
Scottish Water Visit
On Wednesday the 1st of November, we had a visit from Scottish Water. We enjoyed hearing all about the work that they do and how this links in with our John Muir award and the River Tyne in Haddington. We were very lucky to have Isobel's dad delivering the talk to our class. The children enjoyed asking him lots of questions.
Recently we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes in our Maths lessons. Here are some photos were we built some 3D shapes using cocktail sticks and marshmallows. We had to identify the different properties of each shape . We worked really well in pairs/groups to complete this task.
This week we discussed as a class what skills and responsibilities our new class representative would need to succeed in the role. We used this to help us plan our speeches and then presented our prepared work to the class. We then had a vote as a class – well done to our new Pupil Council Rep, Eve Robison!
This week we started our rugby taster sessions. We all enjoyed playing lots of games and developing our skills. The class worked really well and supported each other in teams.Â
We've been busy working hard since returning to school. We have been learning about Growth Mindset and working in groups to complete some STEM challenges. Here are some photos of us working on making the tallest tower using spaghetti and marshmallows.Â
