National 5 Travel and Tourism is offered to pupils in S5/6 as a progression from Geography in S4. The course is folio based (no exam) and learners build up knowledge of 4 areas of travel and tourism that can help prepare them for either work or further courses at college. Through links with Edinburgh College, as well as local businesses, we try and give learners an experience of the real world and opportunities that are available to them.
Units include:
Employability: Careers linked to tourism and the skills and qualifications needed to do these roles, applying for jobs, expectations in the workplace, work based experience.
Customer service: Dealing with customers and complaints, marketing a business and different advertising techniques.
Scotland: Trends in tourism in Scotland, the positive and negative impacts of tourism, types of destinations and investigating attractions, planning a holiday for a client.
UK and Worldwide: Popular destinations in UK, Europe and long haul, trends in world travel, impacts of tourism on the economy, environment and people, planning a trip for a client abroad.
How to support your learner to succeed in Travel and Tourism:
Encourage them to meet the deadlines promptly and attend study support if they are unsure of a task.
