Overview of S1 French
In S1 French, you will revise how to give personal details about yourself, learn how to talk about your likes and dislikes at school, and give details about where you live in French.
You will come to French two periods per week in S1.

Overview of S2 French
In S2 French, you will learn how to talk about your likes and dislikes when talking about TV, films and food. You will learn to give detailed reasons for your opinions about different topics, as well as how to use connectives effectively to achieve Level 3.
You will come to French one period per week in S2.

Overview of S3 French
In S3 French, you will talk about your holidays as well as understand other people talking about theirs. You will also explore the topics of your hometown, cultural differences between France and Scotland and prepare for progression to National 5 level in S4.
You will come to French three periods per week in S3, should you choose to study the language.

Overview of National 5 French
If you choose to study National 5 French, you will learn about the four main contexts governing language learning in the senior phase: society, learning, culture and employability. You will develop your four main skills of reading, talking, writing and listening in French in order to gain the best grade possible at National 5 in preparation for moving onto Higher French.
You will come to French four periods per week when studying National 5 French.

Overview of Higher French
Like in National 5, if you choose to study Higher French, you will develop further your knowledge about the four main contexts governing language learning in the senior phase: society, learning, culture and employability. You will become more confident and expert in your four main skills of reading, talking, writing and listening in French in order to gain the best grade possible at Higher French. Achieving well at Higher French could see you progress on to Advanced Higher French or onto a college or university course.
You will come to French six periods per week when studying Higher French.

Overview of Advanced Higher French
If you choose to study Advanced Higher French, you will become expert in the four main contexts governing language learning in the senior phase: society, learning, culture and employability. You will deal with your four main skills of reading, talking, writing and listening confidently in French in order to gain the best grade possible at Advanced Higher in preparation for moving onto a university course in French.
You will come to French six periods per week when studying Advanced Higher French. Some of these periods will be dedicated to autonomous learning.
