Stay, Play and Learn session
(ante pre school children)
We would like to invite you to attend a ‘stay, play and learn’ session in our nursery. During this half hour session you will have the opportunity to spend time observing and engaging with your child in a real play context. You will also be able to discuss your child’s progress, development and well-being with your child’s key worker.
The appointment booking system will be open between Monday 29th January to Friday 9th February 2024. Please see Miss Forbes to make your appointment when you pick up / drop off your child at nursery or alternatively you can make an appointment by phoning. If you are unable to attend any of the sessions but would still like to have the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and achievement with nursery staff then please request a telephone consultation.
Whilst we appreciate that you may need to bring younger siblings to this appointment we do ask that they are mindful of the nursery children in their work and play environment and must be supervised at all times.
Our nursery website also allows you to see inside the setting and shows our children engaging in their daily learning activities. This is updated on a regular basis. We will also provide you with a curriculum newsletter each term outlining the learning taking place which you will then see in action on the website.
We look forward to welcoming you into the nursery.
Many thanks

(Lewis Wedding song)
Chorus: Step we gaily, on we go,
Heel for heel and toe for toe,
Arm in arm and row on row
All for Mhairi’s wedding.
Over hallways up and down
Myrtle green and bracken brown
Past the shielings, through the town
All for sake of Mhairi.
Chorus
Red her cheeks as rowans are
Bright her eyes are any star
Fairest of them all by far
Is our darling Mhairi
Chorus
Plenty herring, plenty meal
Plenty peat to fill her creel
Plenty bonnie bairns as weel
That’s the toast for Mhairi
Chorus

Dear Parents/Carers,
The children and staff of Haddington Primary School Nursery would like to invite you to attend their Scottish performance on Tuesday 6th February (Mon/Tue group) and Thursday 8th February (Wed/Thu group). The performance will start at 2.15.
The children will be singing a few well known Scottish songs, performing Scottish dances and exhibiting their Scottish art work. After the entertainment there will be tea, coffee and shortbread served in the nursery.

We will not be selling tickets for this event but there will be an opportunity to give a donation to our nursery if you wish. We will be consulting our children on how they would like to use the funds they raise.
Below are a few important points to remember:
Children should be brought to nursery and collected at the usual times.
Parents/carers should enter through the school’s main entrance before the performance begins.
Children will be offered a tartan outfit to wear but are welcome to come in their own tartan outfits.
We look forward to sharing our learning with you.

Dear Parents and Carers
December is fast approaching which means Christmas planning has started in the nursery. Over the coming weeks the children will be decorating the Christmas tree, engaging in lots of festive learning activities and enjoying the suspense of opening our special advent calendar each day.
There are a few dates and some important information that we would like to make you aware of –
· Christmas Parties
The Mon/Tue group will be having their party on Tuesday 19th December and the Wed/Thu group will have their party on Thursday 21st December. The children will attend nursery as normal, at the usual times. Children can come to nursery in the morning dressed in their party clothes for the parties that will be held in the afternoon after lunch. Children will be collected at the normal nursery times. We will be offering a party snack which will include ice cream, homemade biscuit and juice. If you would prefer your child to have an alternative snack then pleased inform a member of staff. Allergies and food intolerances that we are aware of will be catered for.
· Festive Fun Afternoon
We would like to invite you to join us in the nursery for some Christmas festive fun. This will take place on Tuesday 12th December 2.15 – 3.15pm (Mon/Tue group) and Wednesday 13th December 2.15 – 3.15pm (Wed/Thu group)
During this time there will be a variety of festive games and activities you can enjoy with your child. You will also have the opportunity to collect some of your child’s Christmas creations that they will have been busy working on during their time in nursery.
We are very mindful that not everyone will be able to attend this event due to various other commitments but please be assured that your child will still participate in the festive fun with a member of staff. Alternatively, another family member / friend may come along. If you are unable to attend we will ensure that your child brings home their creations for you to enjoy.
· Christmas Lunch
The school catering staff will be providing a Christmas lunch for the nursery children on Tuesday 12th December (Mon/Tue group) and Wednesday 13th December (Wed/Thu group) for those who would like to participate. This lunch will be held in the nursery and follow the normal lunch routine. Children who do not wish to have the Christmas lunch are still very welcome to bring their packed lunch from home.
· The wider community
The nursery children are learning about the spirit of Christmas in a variety of ways. We have extended this into our local community to help develop their understanding of caring, sharing and being thankful. The children will be making Christmas cards with lovely messages which the Community Kitchen will give out on Christmas day. We will also be preparing a hamper to give to the Community Kitchen with lots of lovely baking and crafts by our children. If you would like to donate to this hamper please hand any produce to a member of staff. Many thanks.
· Christmas Holidays
The nursery closes for Christmas on Friday 22nd December and will reopen on Monday the 8th January 2024.
If you have any questions regarding the above information please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support throughout this year and we hope everyone enjoys a safe and happy festive period

Dear Parents and Carers,
We would like to extend a very warm welcome to our new children and families that have started with us this session. We are also very happy to welcome back our returning children and families. Our staff are really looking forward to working with you all and especially your fabulous children.
Now that all our nursery children have started and settled into nursery life we would like to share some important information with you.
Settling into nursery
Starting nursery is a very big step for our children (and families) and we strive to support everyone through this process. All our children will settle at different times and will require different support. Please be assured that our nursery staff are always available to support you and your child when you enter nursery. This is also a time that you may want to pass on any information or ask a question. A meeting room is available if you would like to talk to staff in a more private setting. You can also phone the nursery to talk to any member of staff.
Communication
Our main form of communication is the nursery section of the Haddington Primary School website which will keep you up to date with everything that is taking place. We will have a weekly update with information and photographs of all our learning. Please refer to this website regularly to ensure you receive important nursery information. If you have any trouble accessing this please just alert a member of staff who will help you.

Personal Plans
Each child in our setting will have a plan of how care and support will be provided. The plan will set out how each child’s needs will be met, as well as their wishes and choices, highlighting their welfare, health, safety and learning needs. Thank you for completing the ‘All About Me’ booklet and returning the forms which were issued. This information helps us to get to know your child and supports their transition into nursery. This plan will be updated with any information that you pass on to the nursery staff regarding your child and your family so that we may support them. It will also be discussed with you during ‘stay, play and learn’ sessions that you will be invited to attend. Parents and carers can request to see this plan at any time.
Stay, Play and Learn
We are delighted to welcome parents and carers into the nursery for our ‘stay, play & learn’ sessions. This allows you to share your child’s nursery experience and also have a progress and achievement update from your child’s key worker. You will be notified of times and dates for these sessions by the nursery staff.
Curriculum Newsletter
We will be sharing our intended learning with you at the beginning of each planning session in the form of a curriculum newsletter. This will outline some of the key learning that is taking place in nursery and will be emailed to you at the start of each planning block. The newsletters will also be posted on the website. It is hoped that you will then be able to see the learning in action each week on the website. All our early learning in nursery is delivered through play experiences.
Learning Journals
A learning journal is compiled by staff and your child throughout the year. It reflects your child’s development, learning and achievements both in and out of nursery. Children are encouraged to celebrate their learning and achievements in their journal and are supported in doing so by the staff. These learning journals are available to parents/carers all year and will also be shared and discussed at Stay, Play & Learn sessions.
Online lunch order
Snack and lunch is provided free of charge for all nursery children. The school office has now issued you with a login which you use to access the SchoolPay system where you can order your child’s lunch. If you have any issues with this please contact the school office via telephone. Please ensure you order your child’s lunch to ensure they receive their choice.
Nursery Times
We ask that you adhere to the nursery times for pick up and drop off to ensure the safety of our children. We can only have staff members operating the doors for 15 minute periods at drop off and pick up as they are required to be in the setting with the children. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
We would like to remind you of our ‘open door policy’ - please be assured that you can talk to a member of staff at any time by phoning, emailing or face-to-face at drop-off and pick up times. Thank you all for your continued support in helping us to make your child’s time at nursery a happy, positive and successful one.
Kind regards
Sally Murray (Acting Head Teacher) and the Nursery Team
