We are supporting Red Nose Day this Friday – 17th March by having a dress down or up day. Pupils can come to school/nursery wearing their ‘normal clothes’ or fancy dress. If you are able, a small donation would be very much appreciated however there is absolutely no obligation to do so.
Please note Wednesday/Thursday nursery group will participate on Thursday 16TH March.
Thank you for your support!

Dear Parents and carers,
We are looking forward to participating in literacy activities in school over the next two weeks. As part of our literacy focus, we will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March 2022. On this day, we are encouraging pupils to come to school in their PJs and to bring in their favourite bedtime book. There is absolutely no obligation to wear PJs if your child is not keen to do so. Please note our nursery Monday/Tuesday group will celebrate World Book Day on Friday 3rd March.
World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children. To help get them started on their reading journey, every child receives a £1 World Book Day Book Token that they can swap for a free book – there are 12 books to choose from or they can get £1 of a book of their choice.
You can access World Book Day resources to have fun together with your child at home following the link:

Stay, Play and Learn session
(Ante pre school children)
We would like to invite you to attend a ‘stay, play and learn’ session in our nursery. During this half hour session you will have the opportunity to spend time observing and engaging with your child in a real play context. You will also be able to discuss your child’s progress, development and well-being with your child’s key worker.
The appointment booking system will be open between Tuesday 7th February to Monday 27th February 2023. Please see Miss Forbes to make your appointment when you pick up / drop off your child at nursery or alternatively you can make an appointment by phoning. If you are unable to attend any of the sessions but would still like to have the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and achievement with nursery staff then please request a telephone consultation.
Whilst we appreciate that you may need to bring younger siblings to this appointment we do ask that they are mindful of the nursery children in their work and play environment and must be supervised at all times.
Our nursery website also allows you to see inside the setting and shows our children engaging in their daily learning activities. This is updated on a regular basis. We will also provide you with a curriculum newsletter each term outlining the learning taking place which you will then see in action on the website.
We look forward to welcoming you into the nursery.
Many thanks

Dear Parents and Carers (pre school children only)
Please see the information below regarding deferring your child’s entry to primary one.
Deferred Entry to Primary School – August 2023
Legislation changes from August 2023 mean that children who have not had their 5th birthday by the time school starts in August, are entitled to another year of funded Early Learning and Childcare. For session 2023/24 this is available to children who turn 5 years of age between 17 August 2023 and 29 February 2024.
This is an online application process. Please follow the link below to the East Lothian Council website. This website contains guidance for parents/carers on the deferral process and the link to the google application form which parents/carers should use to apply for the deferred year. Parents/Carers are required to complete the google form by Friday 10 February 2023. Applications received after this date may be considered but parents should be aware that they will not receive the outcome of their request until after the Easter school break and places may no longer be available in the setting of their choice.
It is important that parents/carers feel supported and well informed when considering a deferred entry. Both myself and Miss Forbes will be available to talk you through the process and to help you make an informed decision regarding your child. If you would like to meet with us, please talk to Miss Forbes who will be happy to arrange a time.

All for Mhairi’s wedding.
Over hallways up and down
Myrtle green and bracken brown
Past the shielings, through the town
All for sake of Mhairi.
Chorus
Red her cheeks as rowans are
Bright her eyes are any star
Fairest of them all by far
Is our darling Mhairi
Chorus
Plenty herring, plenty meal
Plenty peat to fill her creel
Plenty bonnie bairns as weel
That’s the toast for Mhairi

We will be offering a party snack which will include ice cream, homemade biscuit and juice. If you would prefer your child to have an alternative snack then pleased inform a member of staff. Allergies and food intolerances that we are aware of will be catered for.

This lunch will be held in the nursery and follow the normal lunch routine. Children who do not wish to have the Christmas lunch are still very welcome to bring their packed lunch from home.
· The wider community
The nursery children have been learning about the spirit of Christmas in a variety of ways. We have extended this into our local community to help develop their understanding of caring, sharing and being thankful. The children will be making Christmas cards with lovely messages which the Community Kitchen will give out on Christmas day. We will also be preparing a hamper to give to the Community Kitchen with lots of lovely baking by our children. If you would like to donate to this hamper please hand any produce to a member of staff. Many thanks.
· Christmas Holidays
The nursery closes for Christmas on Tuesday 20th December and will reopen on Wednesday the 4th of January 2023.

Dear Nursery to P.7 Parents/Carers,
INFANT CAMPUS CAR PARK
Most parents and carers will be aware that we share the Infant Campus area with St. Mary’s RC Primary School. This is referred to as the Joint Campus.
The car park area is shared by both schools and we have been experiencing some difficulty with its usage.
I issue this joint message with Mrs. Graham, Head Teacher, St. Mary’s RC Primary School:
INFANT CAMPUS/JOINT CAMPUS CAR PARK – URGENT REMINDER
We remind everyone that the school car park is for the use of school staff and visitors to the school only and parents/carers are not permitted to use the car park, unless by prior agreement with the Head Teachers. We are aware that the bollard is not in operation at the moment but please do not use the car park for dropping off or collecting children. This causes congestion and is a health and safety risk. Over the last few weeks the parking situation has been very problematic with cars double parked, causing congestion and lack of visibility. We are very lucky to have avoided any accidents.
Also please do not park in the Disabled parking bay unless you are a Blue Badge Holder.
We are currently in consultation with ELC Roads Department, ELC Engineering Services Department, our local Community Warden and the local Community Police Officer who will be supporting us to ensure that parking rules are adhered to in our staff car park.
I thank you most sincerely for your help and cooperation.
Best wishes,
Willie

Haddington Primary School – Thursday 8th September 2022
Dear Nursery to P.7 Parent/Carers,
Haddington Primary School – School Review
I write to inform parents and carers that Haddington Primary School is to be the subject of an East Lothian Council Children’s Services’ School Review. This is a routine exercise and we are one school within a number of schools scheduled to be reviewed during this academic year.
All schools are subject to local authority school reviews. Haddington Infants’ and Kings Meadow, as was, were previously subject to a school review in 2016. Nearly seven years have passed since the previous reviews, nearly a generational cycle, therefore we are scheduled for a school review. Please note that the review is referred to as a ‘School Review’, however, as our Nursery is a class, our Nursery is included in the review.
The School Review will commence on Monday 26th September 2022. The School Review Team will undertake a ‘full review’ and this will take the duration of the full week.
All stakeholders will be consulted and will participate. There is a significant participation for the parent/carer community.
School Review; The Context
The purpose of school and early learning and childcare review is to support self-evaluation for self-improvement against the priorities in the National Improvement Framework with a focus on the quality of learning, teaching and assessment, progress in raising attainment and achievement, and leadership to change.
How will the School Review be conducted and what will be involved?
The school will be reviewed in the following areas:
ü Leadership of change
ü Safeguarding and protection of children
ü Curriculum
ü Learning, teaching and assessment
ü Ensuring well-being, equality and inclusion
ü Raising attainment and achievement
The nursery will be reviewed in the following areas:
ü Leadership of change
ü Safeguarding and protection of children
ü Curriculum
ü Learning, teaching and assessment
ü Securing children’s progress
How will information and evidence be gathered/collected:
v The school will provide data: attainment, progress and achievement, attendance data, policies, standards and quality report and improvement plan priorities.
v There will be direct observations: learning visits (the review team will visit and observe in class bases), pupil work samples and pupil assessment evidence.
v Stakeholders’ views: the following focus groups will meet the review team – pupil focus groups, teacher focus groups, leadership team meetings, parent/carer focus group. *I will be issuing another communication in the following days inviting those parents/carers interested in joining a focus group.
The final part of the evidence gathering will take the form of surveys. Surveys have already been issued to pupils, teachers, support staff and the leadership team.
Please scroll below to find the link for the parent/carers survey. There are two surveys as follows: 1) Quality Improvement, and 2) Safeguarding and child protection.
I appeal that all parents/carers participate in the survey below. It is vitally important that the school review team receive as much information as possible to conduct the review as best as possible. Additionally, I am keen for our parent/carer community to convey and share the many effective and successful aspects of our school and its community.
The survey must be completed and submitted NO LATER THAN CLOSE OF BUSINESS ON MONDAY 19th SEPTEMBER 2022.
