Due to the nature of learning within the nursery it is likely that your child may get messy, whether that be with paint, ingredients, glue, mud, pen, the list is endless. Children have open access to all materials and we value opportunities for our children to learn in the outdoors.
Children are welcome to flow between indoors or outdoors for the majority of the day. It is essential clothes are comfortable, suitable for the season and appropriate for messy play. As our children are so active we also ask that footwear is appropriate for physical activity. This allows your child to take part in all activities on offer. Waterproofs and wellies will be provided by us.
We encourage independence so please make sure your child is wearing practical clothing that is easy for them to change. It is extremely helpful if you label all of your child’s clothes and footwear.
Please send in spare named clothing, including pants and socks. You are welcome to keep these in a bag on your child’s peg.
Some young people require personal care when they begin nursery. Please just let us know if this is the case and we will support your child with this. The nappies/pull-ups and wipes of children requiring personal care are usually kept in their bag on their peg. If they need nappy cream as part of this process we will give you a form to complete. We can also support you with toilet training when you feel it is the right time. We have small toilets here in nursery which supports this process.
If your child requires prescribed medication in nursery you must ensure you have completed the appropriate paperwork for nursery staff to be able to administer this. Please ask the nursery team for the appropriate forms. No medication of any kind should ever be left in children’s bags or pockets in the nursery cloakroom, please ensure you pass it directly to a member of staff. We will inform the adult picking up your child if we administered any ‘when required’ medication and review all medical forms and care plans with you every 3 months.
If your child has an allergy or asthma we will share the flowchart we follow in school with you so that you know how we will respond if your child was to take an allergic reaction. We ask that anyone with epi-pens provides 2 for nursery.
During brighter months we ask that you apply sun cream on your child before nursery each morning. We will then support your child to reapply sun cream as appropriate during the day. We will require a consent form to do this which we gather each March. This states the type of sun cream we use. If your child is unable to use the sun cream we provide we would request you bring an alternative.
We would also request that all families provide an appropriate sunhat and sunglasses with UV protection.
