We believe that successful partnership working is essential for the development of not only your child but our setting. We are looking forward to welcoming you to our setting, getting to know you, learning from you and supporting you.
The Scottish Government’s curriculum, ‘Curriculum for Excellence’ aims are to improve all young people’s life chances by nurturing
Successful learners
Confident individuals
Effective contributors
Responsible citizens
The majority of learners within nursery are supported to work towards the Early Level of the Curriculum for Excellence. It is important to note that each learner, at all levels of the curriculum spanning from age 3-18, are recognised as individual learners within Curriculum for Excellence therefore learning is adapted no matter where each child is developmentally. This means that some children in nursery will be working towards pre-early level milestones and others may begin to access elements of learning within First level where appropriate.
Our practice and curriculum is underpinned by the UNCRC Rights of the Child.
The wellbeing of our children is of central importance to us. The Scottish Government have identified 8 areas young people need to be making good progress in in order to flourish. We thrive to support our young people in all 8 of these areas and work in collaboration with families and the health visiting team to do so. If you have a concern about your child in one or more of these areas please reach out to your child’s key worker. In some cases, where we feel a plan would be beneficial, we may recommend holding a Wellbeing Meeting. This may just include the family and nursery staff however in other cases it may be recommended that a multi-agency approach would be helpful. This could include other professionals such as the Health Visitor, Speech & Language or local family supports such as Families Together.
We have 4 school values. These were identified by our school community a number of years ago. They underpin all that we do across Dunbar Primary School.
This year we are reviewing our school values to ensure that they reflect what is important to all stake holders within our current school community.
We have 3 nursery rules which we support our children over time to understand. All children in our care are still very young and at the beginning of their learning journey. Some children will need more support with this than others, just like all areas of the curriculum. We use a nurturing approach to support our young people to develop an understanding of the rules, as underpinned in the standards our staff follow- ‘The Health & Social Care Standards’
