Impression of Germany – March 2019

Danaya Rimpopova, Kardzhali, Bulgaria

When we arrived the first thing, which we saw was the airport in in the capital Berlin, which was really big. In Berlin was really funny, because I have just met the other children, which was a great experience for me. There we saw a lot of things, some of them were: The Berlin Wall, The Brandenburg Gate, The Reichstag, The TV Tower, Pergamon Museum etc.

After our short stay in the capital we went to Chemnitz and the homes, in which we were going to live for a week. I was a bit nervous when we came, after all we were going to be with a new family for a week. But when I saw the family and we got to know each other a bit more I became relieved, because the people were really nice and welcoming.

In the next day (Monday), in which we went to the German school was really nice, because we had a rally around the school, which made everything more interesting. I really liked the school, because it was really clear and nice.

In Tuesday we had a trip to Leipzig. There we visited The Democracy and the Value of Freedom Forum Leipzig, which was really interesting. Then we had lunch in the city. After lunch we had a workshop in Europa- Haus Leipzig. I got a pretty good first impression of the city and I really liked our short stay there.

In Wednesday we had one of my favourite activities, workshops on chosen topics: Yoga, Dance, and Theater. I of course wanted to go to all of them so I went and had a great time. After school we had a little tour around the little town Limbach, in which was the school.

In Thursday we had an excursion to Dresden, this day was the most exciting for me, because I really wanted to see the city. We had sightseeing tour around the city, after the tour we made interviews with a bunch of different people, which was really interesting for me. After the interviews we went to the parliament of Dresden, which was really beautiful. This day, for me was the best, because we saw this gorgeous city.

In Friday we had workshops again, which contained video making and editing. After school we went to a Jump House which was really funny.

In Saturday we had a day of the open doors in the school, which was really interesting. In this day everyone should have presented something from the country, from which they came from and I and the other children from Bulgaria made Banitsa, for which I remembered in 10 pm in Friday, so I had to wake my mum up and ask her for a recipe for my Banitsa, because I don’t know how to make it. But after everything I made it and I think it came out to be pretty good in my opinion.

In the next day we had to say Goodbye to our host families and go back to Berlin, from where we were about to go back to Sofia. I liked Germany pretty good and I got a really good impression of the school and the people, with which I lived for a week.

As a student in Foreign Language High School „ Hristo Botev“ I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Germany as a part of „Erasmus+“ project. We were all very excited about this trip. The first three days we were in Berlin. There we saw The Brandenburg Gate , a wall which had been separating Eastern and Western Berlin, the Reichstag (the Parliament), the Checkpoint Charlie, and the TV tower from where you can see the whole city. It was such a beautiful sight. The monument in honor to the Jews who died in the

Holocaust was one of the most interesting attractions. These three days went by so fast. The next destination was Chemnitz. There we were supposed to meet the new families in which we were staying. We had to travel by two trains to reach Chemnitz . The first one was very fast-200km/h. In Leipzig we took another train which was slower. I was very lucky to be in an extremely kind and friendly family which made my stay there even better. We had different tasks about the European Union. We had to work with other students our age who were from Germany, Italy, and Finland. We took interviews, made videos, worked in teams and had a lot of fun. Beside all this we had yoga and dance classes, we also went to a Jump house. I'm very interested in yoga so I was very happy about that. Two of the days we took trips to Leipzig and Dresden. We visited museums and the parliament in Saxony . There we could listen to advices and ask questions after. The last day was the most memorable. Full of tears both from happiness and sadness because we had to say goodbye. The girl I stayed with and I made banitsa, pancakes, tarator, baklava and cupcakes. Everybody loved them. In the school there was an "Open doors day". Every student brought a traditional for their country dish. We looked at different rooms where students tried to show what excites them and intrigues others. There was a sewing room, a chemistry lab, a cooking room, a pet room and many others . Saying goodbye was very hard but we were missing home. I'm grateful for being part in this project. I can't wait to see each other again but this time in Bulgaria.

The first walk of Berlin was in the night. We took for a walk along the streets of the town. Our first impressions were that Berlin is very illuminated and beautiful in the night. The first day we went to the Fernsehturm. It is located near to Alexanderplatz – the most famous square in Berlin. We visited a seweral landmarks of the town – Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburger Tor, we walked along the famous Unter den Linden street. We learned about the history of the town.

On the third day there we headed to a small town in the province of Saxony – Limbach-Oberfrona. We stayed there for a week with different foster families. I got a chance to get closer look at the life of my peers and their parents in Germany. I got to know the culture and everyday life of the German family. At the school I was , our hosts had prepared an interesting and intriguing program for our 5-day stay. Finally, we introduced them our traditional food, we prepared them a banitsa and Shopska salad. Two of the days we had the opportunity to see two famous towns in Saxony – Leipzig and Dresden. We visited different landmarks and explore the cities. The time we spent at school and the family is a valuable and important lesson for us. We gained more experience there. Our last day in Berlin we were in the Pergamon Museum. The museum was very interesting for us. We also visited the Reichstag and the Memorial of the Holocaust.

The time spent in Germany was filled with many nice emotions and unforgettable moments. I made there a lot friendships and I had a wonderful time with them.

The experiences and the emotions of this trip were a lot. Our first three days were in Berlin. There we saw the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin wall, which once used to separate East from West Berlin, Parliament, Checkpoint Charlie and the television tower. We visited a monument of the Jews who died during the Holocaust. After Berlin we visited the city of Chemnitz, where was our longest stay. To get from Berlin to Chemnitz we had to take two trains. The first one was very fast – 200km/h. It took us from the capital to Leipzig. In Leipzig we had a coupling to a second, slower train (to Chemnitz). There we were staying at

German families and were going to their school. We met other students at our age, from the project, from Italy, Germany and Finland.

We had two trips to Leipzig and Dresden. There we visited the museums and the Parliament of Saxony. In one of the evenings I cooked banitsa and everybody liked it.

The last day in Chemnitz, in the school was a “day of the open doors”. There every kid brought a traditional meal from their country. We could also take a better look at the school.

At the end we split up with nice feelings and good memories.
