Mobility to Lohja, Finland in December 2024
Activities
Writing an emotion diary throughout the week and reflecting on one’s feelings.
Recognizing one’s emotions and how they affect one’s body. Visually identifying where on the body these emotions occur.
Poem activity in which students continued sentences like If my thoughts took shape, my anger would be like … Each group chose one poem and created a poster around the poem.
Creating two versions of an everyday situation as a roleplay, one in which miscommunication leads to escalation of the situation and another one in which a solution can be found through successful communication.
The questions at the end of the week: How can I be more aware of my own feelings? How can I be more aware of the feelings of the others?
Music and feelings: each country chooses two to three songs (sung in the language of the country) which evoke feelings and the songs are listened to in Finland and there is a discussion about the feelings they evoked in the students from other countries.
Students choose random items that the teacher has brought. Different criteria for each round, e.g. Choose an item which … tells about you at the moment or has nothing to do with your life or reminds you of a family member. After each round students go to their small groups and share why they chose each item.
Emotions through art: Visiting an art exhibition at the Ateneum Art Museum. Task: take a picture of an artwork that activates feelings in you. Name the feelings.
Recreational evening at a lake. Playing games, going to sauna and dipping into the lake.
Student-lead table tennis and pool tournaments at school
The questions at the end of the week: How can I be more aware of my own feelings? How can I be more aware of the feelings of the others?
Observations
Students weren’t on their phones and that made a great difference to their presence during the activities.
Teacher allocated mixed groups worked well but they need to be mixed again regularly.
