On Thursday 19th of October, students in EY3 to Grade 5 were visited by Scott Riley and Prasit Hemmin. Scott is the author of The Floating Field, and Prasit is both the star of the book and also the Mayor of the Koh Panyee community.
EY3 and Grade 1 were lucky enough to meet Prasit, who led them through a range of football drills and some fast-paced games during their football skills workshops. The students had the opportunity to speak with Prasit in Thai, to learn more about how he built the floating field. Thank you to Mr Vern, The Thai Department, our amazing EAs and Specialist Teachers for helping to make these sessions possible!
Grade 2 and Grade 3 students participated in Writers Workshops led by Scott and supported by their Homeroom Teachers and EAs. Grade 2 were introduced to some simple strategies which will support their story planning and writing, while Grade 3 students wrote an Author's Note about an ongoing or completed narrative, which explained their reasons and motivations for writing their stories!
Grade 4 and Grade 5 students met with both Scott and Prasit to learn more about how this story was written, and to hear Prasit speak about the many service projects and innovative solutions he has been involved with, to better the community of Koh Panyee in Southern Thailand.
EY1 and their parents visited the library for the first time. They met the Library team and shared a story with Ms Sian and Ms Dinhe.
EY3 shared a 'Read Aloud' of The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig during their check-out. They are thinking about the special gifts that they bring to their community of learners in the classroom by creating 'wax reveal paintings'.
Grade 1 are inquiring into different kinds of libraries and the systems they use to help them function successfully. This week, the students are exploring the question:
'What is a library?'
Grade 5 are developing information literacy skills through an inquiry into the concept of 'Banned Books'. Through this, they are exploring how different kinds of questions help us achieve different purposes in our learning.
LIBRARY LEADERSHIP STUDENT COMMITTEE - WATCH THIS SPACE!
On Monday the 15th of May, 16 students from Grades 4, 5, 6 & 7 attended the 2023 Kid's Lit Quiz Reading Tournament at Bangkok Pattana School.
Our teams competed against around 35 teams from 12 other international schools from Bangkok and Thailand. While we did not make the finals, our young readers should be very proud of their efforts - especially our Grade 4 & 5s who were some of the youngest competitors in the room! Great fun was had by all!
