東京大学・極地研・海洋機構・他（北見工業大学等）と、ロシア北極・南極研究所、カナダ環境・気候変動省との3国連携により、ArCSIIにおける戦略目標1，2，3の研究活動に横串を通し、北極航路航行支援および北極圏沿岸保全に資する、海氷及び波浪予測技術及び監視技術の確立、それらの情報配信スキームの構築を実現する。また、4年間のトレーニング・講義などを通し、若手研究者による砕氷船等を用いた極域観測技術の習得および、極域現業予測計算技術の習得を加速すると同時に、各国で求められている研究成果の社会実装を加速する。

The collaborations among Japan (UTokyo, NIPR, JAMSTEC), Russia (AARI), and Canada (ECCC), and others (KIT), aim to accelerate the establishment of advanced sea-ice and wave forecast system in the Arctic Ocean and to establish an environmental information system for supporting Northern Sea Route and coastal protection. The program accelerates the coordination of the 3 strategic goals (1,2&3) and the Arctic sea-ice information center of the ArCSII activity, and trains early-career researchers. The goal is to develop expertise in observations using an ice-breaker, and simulations using an operational forecasting system. The outcome of the research is expected to be implemented to solve societal needs in each country.
