HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU DOCUMENT CAS ON MANAGEBAC?
No reflections to Managebac. Only add the new experiences on Managebac & REPORT MONTHLY ON OUR PORTFOLIO ON GOOGLE SITES. You should write about every experience you do. You can choose when you want to write the reflections but they have to be on your google sites AT THE END OF EVERY MONTH.
EXAMPLE: https://sites.google.com/edu.hel.fi/casportfolioex/etusivu
EVIDENCE
For all CAS experinces (despite the strand) you need for example pictures, videos, screenshots, etc. as evidence. Attach the picture on YOUR PORTFOLIO WITH THE REFLECTIONS.
HOW TO WRITE REFLECTIONS:
Add the reflections on your Google sites portfolio and tick the learning outcomes you want to reflect on and clearly and explicitly build a connection between your reflection and the outcome. You can reflect on one learning outcome at a time or multiple outcomes in one reflection.
EXAMPLE 1
Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
Choir: I have found that my breathing technique can still be improved (area for growth), but generally in choir, I stay in tune very well (strength).
EXAMPLE 2
Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
I am taking part in an ad campaign for IOM (S), International Organisation of Migration, where we plan a campaign against human trafficking in small groups. Human trafficking is often work-based our sexual, such as prostitution. I have achieved the learning outcome of Demonstrating engagement with issues of global significance by being part of the group and planning the campaign. Human trafficking is a serious matter which affects lives of many men and
women all around the globe. Through the campaign, the group hopes to educate people on human trafficking and how to stop it. The group work has been fun, and I think that this project will benefit me in the future since I am learning to make a real ad campaign. The challenge in this learning outcome is the vastness of our problem: human trafficking. It is hard to end a matter like human trafficking, but even small deeds are important.
EXAMPLE 3
Ethics of choices and actions
One thing I had to be very careful with was how I was teaching the child. It is very important that the student shows not only interest but feels safe around me, a person they do not know very well. Thereby I had to consider the ethics of choices and actions. When the child gets an answer wrong for example I had to think "how can I instruct the child in a way that they are aware of their mistake but not disillusioned or disheartened in their exercise". It gave me a great deal to think about and as I held my second and third tutoring session I tried to develop my teaching skills. So for example I know form psychology classes that praising children on their effort works better than praising children on their achievement. So I would tell a student "they worked so hard" when they succeeded instead of saying "you did a good job".
EXAMPLE 4
Multiple outcomes
FIBS ACTION
Being a part of the FIBS board has been a very new kind of experience for me that I greatly enjoyed. Not only did I meet new people from different IB schools, I also received opportunities to work on my own skills. For example during this experience I had to take responsibility for my role on the board, and as I was a part of the media team, this meant I had to plan my actions well beforehand. For example when posting information on the FIBS Instagram account, I had to be organized and plan my post to avoid spreading misinformation to our student followers. Here I paid extra focus on how I would word posts and address certain issues to not offend anyone. When I was answering questions we received I had to maintain a certain level of professionalism as I was representing FIBS with my words. In other words, I had to greatly consider the ethics of my choices and actions when it came to interactive parts of my role. Along with this I also developed my collaborative skills and further realized the benefits of working collaboratively as I communicated with my fellow media team representative about who was doing what. This good collaboration allowed us to balance our schedules, so that when one of us was busy with school the other could take more responsibility over media posts. As I was a part of the FIBS board for a year, I believe that I showed commitment and perseverance as I kept on track with my tasks. Lastly something I really enjoyed was getting the chance to be creative with the FIBS posts. It was fun to plan what kind of colors and what style the posts we were publishing would be. I believe that this CAS experience was well worth it.
