Secondary 3, 4 and 5 have most of their classes on this level of Massey-Vanier High School.
The places of interest for you on this floor are the Central Office, the Intervention Room, two of the support centres (Homebase and Oasis), Student Services, the Visual Arts class, the cafeteria, the library and the auditorium.
Each day, you will enter and exit the school on this floor.
You will also find the Athletic Director (for any information regarding the after-school sports or to buy MVHS clothing items) on this floor.
The student phone is located in Central Office, on the 4th floor.
Let's take a look at what else you will find on the 4th floor!
This is a busy place! In this office you will find the people in charge of the school: Mrs. Edwards, the Principal, and the two Vice-Principals (VPs), Mrs. Vokey and Mrs. Journeau. If you are called to the office (for good or sometimes not so good reasons) this is where you need to go. The Principal and VPs often run around the school making sure everyone is where they are supposed to be. If you need to see one of them, talk to Ms. Choquette to find out when they would be available to meet with you.
You would also go to Central Office if you need to leave the school early or if you are bringing a note from your parents to excuse an absence (again, talk to Ms. Choquette). This is also the place where the student phone is located, in case you need to contact your parents.
Massey-Vanier has a great library full of English and French books. You need your student ID card to borrow books. You will receive your student ID card at the beginning of the school year. Make sure you bring your books back on time or you will have to pay a fine!
The library is also a nice and quiet place to hang out or study. It is divided into different sections depending on your needs. Ms. Pollender, our librarian, will be more than happy to help you find a book or recommend the latest best-seller!
In the library, hidden in a small room, you will find Miguel Deslandes, our IT genius! If you have an issue with your ChromeBook during the year, please stop by his office. Miguel can fix anything!*
*Make sure to use your ChromeBook for school related tasks since it is the school's property and not your own. The school is allowed to have access to your history to make sure you are appropriately using the material shared with you.
There are 900 seats in our auditorium! We use the auditorium for assemblies, Remembrance Day Ceremony, to watch plays, Kaleidoscope (our annual Massey-Vanier dance performance), musical performances, PEP rallies and Carnival activities.
When we are in the auditorium, something out of the ordinary is happening and it’s usually loud and exciting!
This is a place where you can meet your friends from the French side or from other levels and have your lunch. There are a few hot lunch options on a daily basis. There is also a sandwich and a pasta bar. Stop by in the morning if you woke up late and didn't have time to take a bite before leaving home. The cafeteria is only open during the morning and lunch breaks. Check out the menu by clicking on this link http://masseyvanier.etsb.qc.ca/cafeteria-menu/ (2020-2021 menu to be posted soon)
In the cafeteria, there are a few microwaves available, but the line can be long (since it serves more than 2000 students)!
Around the school, you will also see vending machines to help you when you need to snack or hydrate yourself. You can also find water fountains all around the school.
*Learning on an empty stomach is so difficult! If you do not have a lunch, see an adult and we will find a solution.
Visual Arts is one of the four option classes that you can choose from. This art room is often open at lunchtime for students to continue to work on projects or just to sit and have a nice place to eat.
Ms. Auclair is an incredible artist. You will enjoy working as much as chatting about art and many other topics with her. She will help inspire you and nourish your creative spirit!
A lot of the pieces created during Art class are exposed around the school for everyone to see and to bring colour to our hallways. Once a year, the four Arts departments (Visual Arts, Drama, Music and Dance) get together and create a show that will blow your mind!
The Oasis is not the Massey-Vanier spa! It is one of our three support centres. Students can be assigned to the Oasis to get support with their organization, emotional and social difficulties. It provides a safe place and is open to all students during breaks and lunch.
Come meet Ms. Crandall and chat with the amazing students who hang out there!
This support centre was designed for students on the Autism Spectrum. Home Base offers a quiet space to work, or relax. The centre is open all day, including noon hour for those looking for a peaceful place to eat or hang out. There is a fridge, toaster, kettle, and four microwaves that all students are welcome to use. There are board games, books, and a Lego centre. There is also have a printer available for students to use.
Ms. Ferraz will show you around Home Base and answer all your questions about the Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The Student Services team is there to answer students' needs that might not necessarily only be academic. If you are having a bad day, if things are not going well at home or at school or if you just need a little advice, there is always someone to talk to.
This team is composed of a Guidance Counsellor, a Social Worker, a Spiritual and Community Life Animator, a Drug and Alcohol Counsellor, a Psychoeducator and a Psychologist.
When you walk into Student Services, simply explain what is going on to Ms. Heckley, the secretary, and she will make sure you meet with the right professional.
The Intervention Room is where students get sent if they are asked to leave the classroom, needing a chat with Ms. Seasons or simply a little time to regroup or collect themselves. The goal is to fix whatever problem they might be having and get back to class.
This is also where you come to get a late slip if you arrive late to class.
Ms. Seasons always welcomes you to come and chat during breaks if you'd like to. There is an open-door policy; all are welcome.
