This is the level on which you will have most of your classes for the next two years (Secondary 1 and 2).
Secondary 1 students have their own hallway all to themselves!
The stairs lead to the gyms and the dance studio which are located on the 2nd floor (not on this map).
Below you will find pictures of the different areas where you will be spending time next year, such as the eating areas, the Gyms, Dance studio, Wood Shop, Science labs, and Music & Drama room.
As mentioned above, the Secondary 1 area is strictly limited to the Secondary 1 students. Other students are not allowed to enter this zone. This rule makes it a lot easier for our new Massey-Vanier students to feel comfortable, safe and find their way around.
In this area, you will always find a staff member available to help you if you are lost, have a question or just want to chat! Meet the Secondary 1 team.
Look around for Kathy Harris, our student supervisor. She knows everything there is to know about the school and will gladly help you out if needed!
Each Secondary 1 student has their own locker in this hallway, close to their classrooms.
The Secondary 2 area is reserved for Secondary 1 and 2 students only. This area is a bit bigger than the Secondary 1 area, but rest assured, you will definitely find your way around after a few days. Listen to Donna's testimonial to hear what she has to say about finding your way around the school.

Kathy Harris, our student supervisor, will also help you out when needed and make sure that everyone respects the Code of Conduct!
Pit Stop is one of our support centres for students who need academic support.
If you are struggling in a subject and your teacher feels you would benefit from extra support, they can send you to the Pit Stop. Here, Mr. Bauerle will work either in small groups or individually to give you the boost you need to get back in the classroom in no time!
Also located in Pit Stop is Catch-up, a voluntary service intended to help students develop good homework and studying habits taking place at noon and after school hours. Catch-up also offers enrichment activities, such as playing games that specifically focus on Math, LA or French skills.
The gyms are a place where some of you will spend LOTS of time!
MVHS has two gyms, one palestre, a workout room and changing rooms. The gyms are open in the morning, at lunch and after school (for after school sports). They are always supervised by one of our amazing gym teachers! Some of the sports you will have to chose from during your physical education classes are soccer, cross-country running, volleyball, basketball, swimming, broom ball, cross-country skiing, wrestling, and many others.
Don't forget to bring a lock and put your personal belongings in a locker in the changing rooms. The dress code for gym class is a plain dark colour shirt and sports shorts or pants and appropriate foot wear.
If you picked Dance as your Art option, you will get to know this place very well! All Dance classes take place in this gorgeous studio, as well as noon hour dances that are mostly choreographed by students.
Mrs Burcombe and her students work all year to put on an incredible end-of-year show called Kaleidoscope. Students get the chance to perform in front of the entire school and then a two-night representation is performed in front of parents and family members!
Students are welcome to come to the Dance studio to have lunch with their friends (there is a microwave!), come give dancing a try or simply hang out and watch the other students show off their talent.
The Woodshop is open everyday at lunch as a drop-in centre. You can choose your own woodworking projects or let yourself be inspired by projects that are already created. Mr. Patch will be there to guide you through your projects. He will show you how to use the tools, how to be safe in the shop, provides tips, tricks and feedback so you can gradually take on more difficult projects.
Projects can be as simple as cutting out shapes and painting or as complex as creating jewelry boxes, shelves, planters or wooden toys. Students often bring their lunch to eat in the shop before getting to work.
A lot of elementary school students are really excited about this hands-on new subject!
We used to describe the science department as the place where you try not to blow things up. However, after consulting with the lab technicians Mr. Refour & Mrs Smith, we have changed the description to the place where you learn how to blow things up, safely!
Click on the links below to see what amazing experiments you might be doing in our science labs!
Music is another Art option at Massey-Vanier. Whether you would like to learn a new instrument or continue practicing one that you play already, Music class is a great place to be. There are opportunities to perform in a band at a few occasions throughout the year. The Subterranean (the name of the Music class) is open every day at lunch and so are the little practice rooms.
In Drama class, you will have the chance to explore Performing Arts with a focus on acting. Through theatre games, you will learn about the use of movement and voice in theatre. Drama students are also introduced to the rules of improv. and performance strategies. In class, as a group, you will get the chance to create characters and then write and perform short scenes in front of an audience. If you prefer to work behind the scene, plenty of work needs to be done to set up the stage, control lighting and sound and get all the props ready. In drama there is something for everyone!
Mr. Jarand is the dedicated and talented Master of The Subterranean. He will make you feel at ease and excited about performing even if you have never done it before!
