Hypothesis:

Through the knowledge of the landmarks and their relative positions, one is able to derive the approximate direction to their respective destination.

+ and therefore are less reliant on their phones for navigation.

Prototype 1:

Understanding your orientation with respect to the cardinal directions

Being able to navigate to a place using guidance derived from the knowledge of where the landmarks are placed

Prototype run notes:

• The user began strategising his approach right way after looking at the map and how the 'color-tagged' landmarks were distributed
• The strategy was to head towards the green since position B fell more or less on the same straight line if there was one drawn between position A and the green marker
  • The strategy was to head towards the green marker since it more or less in line with position A and position B
• The user inferred that the point at which he needs to walk upward is when the red circle is above and the blue circle are on the opposite sides of each other, and If I cross the big street, that means I've walked too far.
• On the way back from the unknown location Position C all the user needed to ensure is that the green marker is facing in the direction opoosite to his heading
• The user never activated or used the yellow and orange markers for navigational referencing
• a majority of the times, the user references the landmark markers by their colors and not their names
• the user would update the compass with relatively high frequency at certain times when he felt turns had to be made
• The user was asked at multiple points on the route to point as various landmarks. Most of the answers were correct. the only wrong response was when the user was asked for the direction to the the Black diamond library when half way between position B and position A
• The user to some extent utilized the markers as triangulation references, I am not sure if this is a hacky method to replace the gps location
