Full-diploma

Pursuing the full-diploma is a wonderful option for any highly motivated, academically strong student at Sumner High School. Please see the "Planning for IB" page for scheduling options and preparation recommendations.

IB full-diploma candidates are required to take and test in courses from the 6 defined areas of study: Language A, Language B, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and The Arts.  They also consistently develop their CAS portfolio, attend weekly TOK seminar and do an independent research project resulting in a 4000-word academic paper.

The IB full-diploma is designed to do more than provide rigorous academic coursework for high school students. The IB Diploma Programme aims to encourage students to become independent thinkers who are committed citizens prepared to contribute locally and globally in an ever-changing world. Desirable attributes found in such people, are defined by the IB Learner Profile. Sumner High School teachers are committed to developing these attributes in all students in the SHS IB Diploma Programme.
