Studio Art II

Students are expected to purchase all supplies and bring them to class every day (there are shelves in the classroom designated for storage of supplies such as oil paints). There are a few options for purchasing supplies:

1) Bring the requisite fee in cash (either $34 or $23; see below) to class by Wednesday, August 30 and I will bulk order the supplies (no shipping fees)

2) Order the supplies from www.dickblick.com by clicking on the following links from the main page: Registries & Lists -> Blick U -> TX/Founders Classical Academy of Lewisville -> Studio Art II (shipping fees apply)

3) Shop for the items individually at your local art supply store (Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc.) or online retailer such as Amazon. This option may work best for students who already own some supplies.

Supply List for Studio Art II

· 1 art marker, Pitt artist’s pen, or Sharpie (black, extra fine or ultra-fine tip)

· 1 “clic” or stick eraser

· 1 water-mixable oil paint starter set (see note below)

Note: I am excited to announce that Art 2 will begin oil painting this year! We will be painting with water-mixable oils, which retain the desirable properties of oil paint, but have been modified so that the use of paint thinner is not necessary. The students will need to purchase a small starter set of paints, with several options available:

1) Recommended – Weber wOil Water Mixable Artist Oil Colors Set

This set comes with six 37ml tubes of paint, plus a 60ml bottle of modified (water-mixable) linseed oil. This set is the best value because it contains nearly twice as much paint as many other sets in addition to modified linseed oil, which is an excellent mixing medium that improves the texture, blending ability, and luminosity of the paint. This set is available online at www.dickblick.com. If you choose to purchase the supplies by bringing cash to class, the fee for supplies including this paint set is $34.

2) Optional – Royal Talens Cobra Study Water Mixable Oil Set

This set comes with six 20ml tubes of paint. It is slightly cheaper than the Weber wOil set, but it contains less paint and does not include the bottle of linseed oil mixing medium. If you choose to purchase the supplies by bringing cash to class, the fee for supplies including this paint set is $23.

3) Optional – Student-selected Water Mixable Oil Set

If you choose to shop for supplies on your own, any water-mixable oil set will work for this class. Please make sure that the paint is designated as water mixable, water miscible, or water soluble. The set should contain 5-6 colors in tubes at least 20ml in size (10ml tubes are too small). If you choose to purchase a linseed oil mixing medium, please make sure that it contains oil that has been modified to be water mixable.
