The high school studio art curriculum follows an approach inspired by the classical academic tradition. Studio Art I is designed as a rigorous introduction to representational drawing, focusing on developing technical skills in graphite and charcoal mediums as well as mastery of line, shape/form, and light/shadow. Studio Art II builds on these concepts, introducing principles of color theory, perspective, and effective composition. Students begin to explore alternative mediums such as oil painting and ink, and studio practice is substantiated with topical discussions of art history.
