  1. What fossil fuel burns the cleanest?
  2. What greenhouse gas is released by all three fossil fuels?
  3. What three countries harvest the most coal?

PART 3: Renewable Energy

Watch this video discussing renewable energy sources and their uses then answer the questions below.

  1. What is EROEI and why is it being used to measure each energy source?
  2. Which energy source do you think is the MOST practical for large scale use? Why?
  3. Which energy source do you think is the LEAST practical for large scale use? Why?

PART 4: Nuclear Energy

Watch these videos on nuclear energy (1, 2, and 3 ) and answer the questions below.

  1. Why do we use light water reactors as our main source of nuclear energy?
  2. What do you think is the most compelling reason to stop using nuclear energy? Why?
  3. What do you think is the most compelling reason to keep using nuclear energy? Why?

PART 5: Energy Review

Based on what you have learned, create a list of 3 energy sources that you would want the world to use. You must include why they are the best choices AND what drawbacks there would be by using them.

Week 3: April 20-24

Learning Goal:

I can demonstrate knowledge and understanding about environmental hazards and human health.

Estimated Time for The Week: 1 hour and 30 minutes

Learn & Practice:

  • Watch Bozeman Video about the health impacts of pollution and respond to the follow-up questions by making a copy of the google doc or writing it in your notebook.
  • Read update on Coronavirus
  • Create Concept map defining vocabulary. For an example click HERE
  • Reflect knowledge gained from power-point, article, video, lethal dose lab through reflective questions (You can use the answer key to check your work.)
  • Connect with a classmate. Call them and ask them to share some of their interest in this chapter.
  • Be curious; conduct a 2-minute search online to learn something new about another area of human health hazards that interest you.(For real - set a timer!)

    • Watch this video about climate change.
    • Read this article about climate change and answer the following questions.
      • What evidence is given in the article to counter the argument that ‘low-value forest products for bioenergy use will create a ‘carbon deficit’ or ‘carbon debt’’?
      • Essay: The article ‘Substantial bioenergy resources are available to tackle climate change’ is an opinion based article. Read the entire argument and write in your own words if you agree or disagree with the authors? Build an argument to support your choice.
