In order to ensure that everyone participating in a Zoom/online class has a positive learning experience, please observe, respect and help enforce these practices. These guidelines may be modified as we become more expert in using Zoom and other online teaching/learning tools. Let’s work together on this. Thanks!
This is our classroom. Appropriate classroom behavior is expected.
When joining a Zoom meeting, do so from a distraction free, quiet environment. Consider the background behind you and surrounding sound..
Remember, this is our class. Appropriate school attire is a requirement. If you wouldn’t wear it to school, don’t wear it to our Zoom class.
When you log in, be sure that you are using your real name as a username. Otherwise, you may not be not be admitted to the Zoom session. Zoom links will be initiated through Canvas, so your district username should follow you into your Zoom session. Other Zoom meetings may be initiated differently.
Please make sure that others around you (family members, etc.) know that you are participating in an online class so that they do not unknowingly or unnecessarily interrupt you.
Please keep your audio on mute until you want to speak. This will help to limit background noise. (There may be exceptions to this; follow the guidance of your teacher.)
If you would like to speak or ask a question or answer a question, use the “Raise Hand” feature.
The chat feature is another useful tool. Please remember that it is public and a record of the chat is kept and archived. (teachers can turn this off on the website settings or during a meeting under chat)
When responding to a question or comment to someone specific in the chat, use the “@” + name of student at the beginning of the chat followed by their name. Ex: “@ Naomi- I agree and I have thought about that too. “
Use the “raise hand” feature for questions or other communications to the host/teacher.
Please, do not share our login information with anyone who is not in our class.
Please know that Madrona & ESD administrators and parents may join our Canvas classroom, and other (school) teachers/staff might be observing our Zoom sessions.
Cameras on or off? Seeing names with faces is very helpful in making connections and establishing relationships. Recognizing bandwidth and certain situations may warrant student videos to be off, please customize your profile image with an identifiable photo of yourself. This can be done when logged in to your account on Zoom. This will help all of us establish a sense of community.
We want to protect privacy concerns while understanding that this is an official class. Do not capture screen shots of people on Zoom. If information is being presented, you may capture the screen at that time.
Zoom sessions may be recorded for absent students, but will not be posted publicly. Teachers and paras will monitor break out rooms, so expect them to drop in during your conversations.
