Assessments and Homework
Naturally with more subject areas and different teachers assessments and homework are going to increase for your students, there are a couple of ways you can keep on top of this workload.
Firstly every Monday afternoon from 3pm-4.30pm the school runs a homework club, this is where students can get assistance from teachers with their assessments and homework. This is a great idea if your student is finding it hard to work at home with distractions.
Secondly, students will be encouraged to keep on top of their Google Calendars and how to utilise this tool to help keep on the assessment will be one of the focuses during our long team sessions. But to summarise, I would encourage students to look at when assessments are coming up and putting in some reminders two weeks, and one week out to focus on it.
Becoming a Guardian on Google Classrooms is a great way to keeping up with what is happening on Google Classrooms in case I have missed something. To become a guardian you will need to:
1. Fill in the Google Form with your details- https://forms.gle/hNF5AfSMydbi1UUeA
2. Our IT Department will then add you as the guardian on Google Classrooms- you will be notified about this via email.
3. You need to accept to be the guardian and then you can go into the settings and set up to get the ‘Guardian Summaries’ and you can manage them from there- whether you want emails weekly, biweekly, monthly etc.
Thirdly, by knowing your students teachers you can also check on our Google Calendar which is listed here for when assessment is coming up for your students class to assist them manage their time.
Lastly, you can find the expectations and policies around Homework and Assessment under the Current School Policies page on this website.
Social Interactions
High school can be difficult for some students around connecting with similar peers. For the most part students will navigate this aspect themselves but if you notice your student changing or becoming isolated I would encourage you to email me or the school counselor or student services. Alternatively you could encourage your student to come speak about their issues with these people.
If this is an area of concern I would encourage you to establish comfortable and relaxed communication about it and maybe set some social goals together.
Getting Involved
Although there isn't as many opportunities to get involved in High School as there was in Primary School there are still some great opportunities for Parents and Carers. The best way to find out what you can do is to speak to the P&C Association. There is a link below to the school website with all the contact details.
