Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge
The Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge is well and truly underway. We, at Macgregor Primary School, pride ourselves on 100% participation as a school. Committing to being a part of the challenge brings our communities together working towards a common goal, also providing an individual element under that umbrella to encourage personal growth for those who want to dedicate themselves further in populating their own lists. Being a well renowned ACT government initiative inspiring and promoting a love of reading and literacy, it’s exciting to be counted amongst the many participating in Canberra each year.
I am in the process of chatting to classes as they come into have their library session about the challenge to build awareness and excitement about our school being a part of the challenge again this year. All students participate; however, it is their choice to decide to participate as a class only or to also participate individually. All students are given the opportunity to ask for a hard copy list that can be taken home and signed by a family member or carer after each book has been read. The criteria is to read 30 books between February to early September and when the list is complete, they would hand it back into their teacher or the front office which will make its way to me. Along with the acknowledgment and celebration of completing the challenge, classes will receive a class certificate for their efforts while students who fill out their own list will receive an individual one.
Happy reading everyone 😊
