WINGS 2024
Last week a group of year 9 and 10 girls who are passionate about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) attended a fantastic day of STEM related presentations and activities. The big focus for the day is ‘if you can see it, you can be it’ and it was great to see the girls from Melba Copland being inspired by all that they saw and experienced. In turn, the teaching staff in attendance were inspired by our students' insightful and sophisticated questions and impressive problem solving skills on display throughout the day.
We are delighted to share the outstanding achievements of our students at the recent da Vinci Decathlon. Representing our school with grace and talent, our Year 7 and 8 teams exemplified the values of Melba Copland Secondary School throughout the competition. Throughout the event the students demonstrated politeness and sportsmanship, reflecting the ethos of excellence and respect we strive to instil in every student.
A standout moment came with the Year 8 team's impressive victory in the drama category. This success not only showcases the individual talents of our students but also highlights the collaborative spirit that defined the group and our school.
Representing the school we had, Megan Castro, Savannah Christoff, Skyla Hancocks, Zoe Ma, Phoebe Macdonal-Smith, Keita Orlowski, Yasya Zazdrvnova, Gwen Wetherell, Reece Miller, Aiden Hayes, Lachlan Scarth, Seren Breeze, Kate Elson, Abby Pietsh and Phoebe Vincent-Pietsch.
Thank you also to Ms Davey and Ms Mercieca for their support throughout.
Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work and commitment. Your achievements serve as an inspiration to us all, and we couldn't be prouder of the way you represented Melba Copland Secondary School. Well done!
We are thrilled to share the remarkable achievements of our students at the recent Senior Ethics Olympiad. Representing Melba Copland Secondary School with pride and determination, our team secured a notable 5th place in the ACT out of approximately 15 competing teams.
Furthermore, we are delighted to announce that our team was one of just three in the ACT to receive an honourable mention for their outstanding conduct throughout the event. This recognition highlights not only their academic excellence but also their commitment to upholding ethical principles and respectful behaviour.
Congratulations to Clare Devoy, Liam O’Conner, Daniil Siminov, Kieren True and James Lawrence (also Leo Kringas for his support) for their impressive performance and for embodying the values of integrity and sportsmanship that define our school community. Your achievements are an inspiration to us all. Well done!
This week in QUEST enrichment the students completed a murder mystery relay. They needed to complete a series of mathematical puzzles to get the next clue to ultimately solve the murder at the movies. They needed to use teamwork and and play to their team members strengths. Congratulations to the winners from year 7, 8 and 9 and thank you to the Year 10's for managing the clues!
This year at MCSS we will be extending the range of competitions that we offer for students to engage with. Participating in academic competitions serves as a catalyst for profound personal growth, challenging students to surpass their own limits, develop resilience, and cultivate a lifelong passion for learning. These experiences not only sharpen intellectual acumen but also nurture invaluable qualities such as perseverance, creativity, and self-confidence, laying a sturdy foundation for future academic and professional endeavours.
As a student at MCSS you are welcome to participate in any of the competitions offered by MCSS. If you are a member of the QUEST academic program, the expectation is that you will compete in at least one competition; however, you are welcome to compete in as many as you like.
This form divides competitions into faculty areas, please select any competitions you would like to compete in and submit.
