Why Transition to College Matters
How We Support Students at Canberra College
The transition from high school to college is a pivotal stage in a young person's educational journey. At Canberra College, we acknowledge that this transition brings both excitement and challenges, and we are devoted to supporting students throughout the process. Our comprehensive transition program covers everything from orientation activities to one-on-one guidance, all designed to help students feel prepared, confident, and connected as they enter Year 11. We also offer targeted workshops and foster collaborative connections with high schools and families. By promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment, we ensure that each student has the tools and knowledge they need to thrive.
In the ACT, senior secondary education has some unique characteristics compared to other regions. Instead of a uniform set of subjects and exams, each college collaborates with the Board of Senior Secondary Studies (BSSS) to design its curriculum. This approach enables teachers to help determine the subjects offered and the content covered, resulting in a more flexible and personalised learning experience. This type of education is designed to better prepare students for their future careers and higher education.
