Canberra College Information Night
Principal's message to our community
Dear Families,
I write to you today to clarify some discussion within the community around Information Night 2026. We undertook a review based on last years’ Information Night as the college had transitioned to a Category A enrolment classification. At the point of review Senior Executive and Executive discussed the following:
A lot of interest at Information Night came from those seeking out of area enrolment
Similarly, many students/families were from Year 9
The college is currently 1236 students which will limit us again to in area enrolment as much as possible to ensure space for those families
As a college we need to focus enrolment processes to ensure students have access to their chosen pathway
A walk through doesn’t allow adequate time for more personalised supports for families
The decision to enrol from within the local area can be supported with online “virtual” tours and information.
As we get bigger, traffic management, parking and access to the college becomes more difficult.
With the best interests of future students in mind the decision has been reached to not have Information Night in the traditional format. We will host an online video “virtual” information for Canberra College in the very near future. This will be then available for repeat visits if information was missed about any particular area of the college. It is hoped that we can then put energy into an evening after enrolment offers have been accepted, to then meet with families about what to expect, how to support your student, managing communication with the college and some focused course selection opportunities.
In the meantime, you can access our website, current unit guide and CCHQ if you need information about the college.
Thank you
Simon Vaughan
